I think that statement applies anytime when it comes to MS stuff. Technical preview = alpha testing. When it's released for real = beta testing. When Service Pack 3 plus 10 hotfixes come out, then it's ready to go live.

What the hell, I'll try it on a back-up HD 8O

Both Jon and I were 'official' beta testers for Win XP. That was an 'interesting' experience to say the least.... :rf

The MS download server seems a bit slow today .........

Hey! We're surfing with SP2........ And it's HUGE in comparison to SP1.

Installed without a hitch. The 'don't archive' old files section of the install isn't available.

It loads a security center icon in the tray that monitors the new beefer XP firewall. It really wants people to use the auto update function, and it tries to monitor virus protection.

It installs a shortcut to the desktop that says "Report a XP SP2 Bug" 8O

IE 6 has an integrated pop-up blocker. There's in information bar that tell when a pop-up has been blocked. The info bar can be turned off.

When you click on Windows Update it takes you to a complely new Update site specifically for the Beta. There, you can chose how to have the updates delivered. There were 4 critical updates there already.

On boot up the nag screen keeps telling me I have auto update turned off. Well dooh! That's what I told it to do.....

The firewall is configurable, although it's nothing like ZoneAlarm.

As far as any MS RC1, this is the best I've seen.....

I'll sniff around a little more and see what else is new.....

            Yep I noticed.

Actually Comcast just doubled the download speed in my area and there's almost no one sharing my node. So now we're crusing along at 3000kbps..... 8)

Note to self and others. Turn off the google pop-up blocker if using the one in SP2. Otherwise it takes the pages a long time to load.

Another BIG benefit for me is that for some reason HT-Guide now loads much faster. For a long time it's been like a dial-up speeds to get the The-Guide to load. It's still not as fast as some of the other forums, but it a whole lot better than it was....

Thanks for blazing the trail guys:T Does either of you use the remote desktop feature? If so have they tweaked it so that it doesn't log out the current user?

                    Andrew,

I don't use the remote desktop feature so can't comment about that.

I'm running an XP proprietary load for my company that is currently in Alpha testing. I'll wait until you gentlemen provide further testing, before running it. I guess I could always reload the OS if it blows up. Thanks for the heads up.

                      Regards,

                      Azeke

I think the reason 'Don't Backup old files' is crippled for the install, is due to the fact that the RC1 must be uninstalled before a newer version can be installed.
According to one of the beta testing sites, newer versions can't simple be installed over an existing one.....
