Last week I was coming in with speeds of 446 KB per second.

Today I was able to score a 3.1 MB per second on the test.

I am connected to the internet with a Motorola Cable Modem.

I just ran the test again..

          237 KB/Sec

          Yesterday was 2.9 and 3.1 MB/Sec..

I really don't understand the inconsistencies of these test scores.
However ,,my computer is running very slow today. Seems to be taking forever to load pages..

I get 1mb a sec, and it never fails to reach that at any time. Constant 1mb every time I have run the test from peak to down times.

Trev, I think that's the nature of Cable broad band. It has a huge maximum theortical bandwidth >100Mbs, but is throttled by how many users are on the line at the given moment.

ADSL on the other hand does not have the same maximum theoritical bandwidth as Cable, but is more consistant in speed overall. Averaged over time ADL can be faster if your with in 7km of the hub.

              Today's tested speed:

              1.3 MB/s

                I got 672 kbps.
I use SouthWestern Bell DSL. I only pay for 380 kbps...600 kbps is the next pay level in my service. Shhh! Don't tell!

Funny thing is,,I received these low scores the day after my power had gone out and the computer had to restart.
For the last couple of days the computer was running real slow when navigating on the web.
I just restarted the computer and now she is back to normal..
                    Strange,,but this worked.

I am consistantly scoring 3.1 to 3.3 MB/Sec no matter at what time of the day I try the test.
I guess this would be very satisfactory for a Cable connection.

Well at work the numbers are:

                        communications 2.1 megabits per second
                        storage 254.2 kilobytes per second
                        1MB file download 4 secs.

Ah 3mb ADSL, gotta love it.
