At the moment I've got a hub and a couple of computers networked so at least I can share files and a printer. But what I'd like to do is be able to do is share a fast interent connection. I think I've got an idea of what I need but I might need some help in getting the settings right. Plus I don't want to be vulnerable to attacks.
The way I've thought this out.
First, ADSL line needs to hookup to an ADSL modem - no problem, just have to make the plunge and get the quickconnect package and hook it up
Second, router/firewall - I think this is a key item, this is where I would connect the ADSL modem and from there I would plug computer 1, 2 and 3 into the router. Now I've seen some that says they do printer sharing, so does that mean it has a printer port on it and I would just connect my printer directly to it instead of sharing it from my machine?
Third, network settings - Well to be honest, I had a printout before of what to do and I just setup some IP addressess and gateways and all seemed to work fine, it still does. But I'd really like to make sure I've got it setup properly and all sharing the ADSL connection. Would it be best to setup my main PC first and then add the others and what settings would I have to modify?
Fourth, with the router/firewall, are there clear instructions on how to set this up? At the moment I'm using ZoneAlarm for my dialup account, should I continue to use that in addition to the firewall? and have it installed on all machines? Logically I would answer yes, two levels of protection.
Finally, if I want a wireless access, would I just buy a wireless access hub, plug it into my router and then get a wireless PC card for the laptop?

There are three kinds of people in this world; those that can count, and those that can't.
