The screen is 3 1/2" diagonal, so extrapolate from there. On my monitor, it looks like it's pretty close to actual size.

Edit, found a ruler: Looks like it's roughly 5 3/4" x 4 1/8" in size. For you metric folks, it's around 14.5 x 10.5 cm. On my 17" monitor at 1280x1024 the picture is pretty close to actual size, maybe slightly larger than actual size, so the real dimensions are probably slightly less.

Looks way better than my Pronto but I bet it slides easily down under the couch cushions.
I also wonder how dog resistant it is?

I'd worry about being kid resistant more than dog resistant... but for either it would have to be built strong enough to withstand a thermonuclear blast 1/4 mile away.

Can turn on 15 devices at once? Not to mention the touchscreen LCD.

Gott love touchscreens. A few hard buttons are nice and necessary but I find the "regular" Harmony remotes are WAY to busy/cluttered. This looks to be darn near the perfect mix to me...flexibility without the clutter :T

I believe it also does RF, has a recharging base and I'm sure a few other things as well.

And has the RF repeater so you can put all your gear in the closet and use it from your couch. Of course that costs extra but hey.

If I have enough left over after buying my TV I think I may purchase this to at least try it out. I had a harmony 880 before and the only thing I did not really like about it is that there seemed to be a few second delay in when I pressed the button and it did what the button was supposed to do. If I don't like it I'm sure I can return it though.

When's this thing coming to Canada????

                              Hi guys,

I can't seem to get a straight answer on this from any of my local retailers here in Montreal (big box and smaller specialty shops), just vague "after the holidays" and such.

I've been a big fan of Harmony remotes for a long time and am looking forward to this one.

Has anyone had any problems with this remote?

                              Thanks!
                              Best regards ...

It certainly looks very nice, but for $500.00, it should have Wi-Fi. In essence you would have to add an additional $150 for the Logitech Wireless A/V Receiver, depending on your equipment location.

I am not a fan of LCD anymore, I accidently dropped my previous LCD remote, cracking most of the screen, rendering it useless. This of course is just my humble opinion, ymmv.

                                Peace and blessings,

I love my current Yamaha unit and this one just looks that much better...and even at $650 it's still much cheaper than anything comparable IMO.

I guess it depends on what you are comparing it to ?

I had the Yamaha LCD remote, now cracked, it just makes me leary of the equipment's fragility.

However, I still concur with you Jason, it is indeed a beautiful remote. If I were to purchase this remote, I would probably get the extended warranty, which is something I rarely do. However, I would have a difficult time explaining to my wife why I have another remote .

Peace, blessings, and Merry Christmas to all,

The one thing I REALLY like about the Harmony remote that I wish my Yamaha had is the directional pad!!! It looks like it's missing the off/standby button though for my pre.....

This is definitely something to consider. I'm definitely going to get this remote someday. I think it may be a good idea to get one of the Best Buy/Circuit City replacement warranties when buying it --- in case something does happen to the LCD.

I changed all my remotes to Harmony over the past couple years. Prior to that I think I tried every other remote made. This reminds me of the pronto that came out a few years back. I had 3 problems with the LCD screen remotes. The first was programing it. It would take all week to set up a Pronto. The second is having to look at the remote to operate it. I settled with the 880 because I operate it without looking. With the LCD, I had to look at the screen to make changes. The third was it was too big to comfortably operate with one hand. To use the buttons toward the top of the remote I had to hold the remote with my left hand so I could press the buttons. I abandon the cool factor to achieve a little more functionality.

Well the 1000 is a smaller LCD remote it really isn't large at all. Also it has channel and volume buttons so you can channel surf without looking at the remote. And programming it takes just as long as any other Harmony remote as they use the same software. I had an LCD remote once before and honestly glancing down at it for a split second is not that time consumeing or annoying...and evetually I got to where I knew where the buttons were on the screen so I didn't really have to look much.

The only glitch I have with surfing is I like to go to the guide and search that way. That requires a screen press on the LCD instead of a hard button on my 880. When I go to the menu search I still keep a small picture of the show I am watching in the corner. I also have the 10 year old factor with LCD screens. I don't know what my daughter gets on her hands, but it always ends up on the screen.

I did play with one at the audio store and I definitely want one, but the thought of constantly cleaning 10 year old girl nasty off the screen it a big hurdle to jump. But from what I saw, the programing and operation are great. At $500, the price is nice also. The pronto at the same price has made big updates in the screen, but the programming isn't nearly as easy.

Maybe I should get one for the bedroom? That might put a little more romance in the marriage.

First post to this part of the Guide. I certainly like the look of the new Harmony remote. I have an 880 and it is terrific. Before the 880 I had a Sony "Commander" LCD remote similar in shape to the new 1000. Programming the Sony was done on the remote itself and really was just setting up various macros. The programming was awkward but what annoyed me is that it took two hands to operate the Sony. I really like one-handed operation and a variety of hard buttons so I switched to the 880. What closed the deal is my family likes the 880. Just my 2 cents...

I will say its great that Harmony offers remotes with a variety of features and designs. For those looking for an LCD remote the new 1000 would be terrific. The 880 and 890 (for those needing RF) have their advantages too and fit certain individual tastes.

Well put :T Sure LCD touchscreen remotes aren't for everybody which is why Logitech makes both varieties I'd imagine For those looking for a touchscreen, this one seems to be a good example :T

Wel it is RF capable so all you should need would be the appropriate codes I'd think. Best bet would probably to send an email to Logitech

Ya i picked mine up last tuesday after they finally came to canada.
                                                          Initial impressions are pretty good.
I've set up about 3-4 harmonies for friends and family, and this one follows the same trend of 'activity' based set-ups.
                                                          It's Quite sexy too.

It's a little bit smaller (and slimmer) than i thought it would be.
I see a couple complaints already about the size of the buttons from others.
                                                          I dunno, though.
i have pretty big hands and there's no problem steering here.
you can easily do it 'one-handed style'

                                                          battery life seems pretty good.
*tip: as soon as you set it up, go into the controller menu and set LCD backlight and sound down by a couple notches. Set Backlight down to 10 Secs response activation.

seems to have control of everything a normal Harmony would. (quite the extensive database already)

Heard a bit of a whine when the LCD screen is still active and it gets put on the charger. Until the screen turns itself off, it's apparently normal.

Great product thus far though! I'm loving it.
And it looks so choice on my table.
Hopefully it'll drop in price a bit, so others can join in the H1000 fun.
This was the one i, personally, was waiting for.

                                                            leef,

thanks for the write-up! it's pretty rare to hear a complaint about any logitech remote, glad you like it. does logitech have a company list of products they support? i am assuming most of my equipment should be compatible with this remote, but i want to make sure before i purchase...

the only problems I see with my 1000 is the lag between pushing a button i.e. volume and the volume actually changing. I have put the inter ker delay to 0 and it still takes a half second.

I also dont fully understand how Zwave is supposed to work. Can it be an activity or device...how does it work with other harmony's

A new firmware has been released and seems to have fixed many things. I have a bunch of dimmers and a work around to control my lights and blinds via this remote. I am starting to really like it. I have had 5 remotes since my this hobby started..this is the only one where my wife said "I love this remote".

                                                                          Ill post some picture tomorrow.

I can't stand soft, squishy buttons, and the 880 was the most economic way to get hard plastic buttons and a charging cradle.
