    My Computer's Value?

So I purchased this computer less than a year 1/2 ago as a workhorse laptop to replace my fried desktop. I take it out & about sometimes, but at ~10 pounds, I can't carry it to class everyday. I never wanted to before, but now that option is starting to be more valuable. I searched a little online but couldn't find a free "blue book" service; if someone could point me to one, I'd appreciate it. For now, I'm going to post specs, and maybe someone can help me out on what I might expect to get if I sell it...probably on eBay, maybe person to person. Hopefully it could be enough to get a competent, smaller system. Thanks!

    Dell Inspiron 9300
Windows Media Center edition 2005 (has remote & usb receiver)
17" wide screen with the special anti-glare, wide viewing angle coating (TrueLife)
    1.86ghz 2megb 533 FSB Pentium M processor
1 gig memory (Two 512 mb modules)
    256 mb Nvidia card
60 gig, 7200 rpm hard drive
    DVD +/- RW, 8x
Wireless card from Intel, includes Bluetooth
    MS Excel, Publisher, Powerpoint, Word
    6 cell battery
6 usb ports, S-video out, monitor out, some other 'out' video port I don't recognize, an SD memory card port, 1394 port, and of course a phone jack & ethernet jack

This was nearly $2,000 when I bought it last August. Anyone want to estimate what it's worth now? $800? $1,200? Eh? I'd really like to hear $1,200, but your guess is better than mine, so just throw a number out if you don't mind :T

You really don't want to know. Just keep it at home and buy a supllementary laptop

He might get $800 from someone who has not heard of Core duo or Core 2 duo machines. It's a nice loaded up machine otherwise.

I wouldn't expect you'd get much over $500 from anybody with decent knowledge....

I see. Mainly because of the Core duo machines being so popular & advanced?

Computers hold their value about as well as domestic vehicles, that coupled with quickly, ever advancing techs/formats etc and you get plummeting resale value.

Well, I might be interested, (for my wife) but I'd have to count myself in the "fairly educated" category, so I'd have to go with actual pricing.

Sounds like you may want to hang on to it, though!

Well, we're safe for now. Thank goodness we're in a bowling alley.

Prices are all over the board for that unit.
It is a nice, capable laptop.

Yeah..that's what's frustrating; it works fine, could probably run vista well, but I know i'm going to have trouble getting half of what I paid, which I feel like could get me a decent, smaller machine. Maybe I'm missing something, but a setup similar to this is still upwards of $1,400 from Dell..makes me think I should be able to get 1,000? Ehhh...

It's used, so people think you (and everyone) obviously have illegal child porn and moosehead pictures with Xmillion viruses on it. I don't understand it either.

Chris, are you inferring the child porn and viruses are normal / expected?
