    WindowsXP startup

I am trying to figure out again what command to use in order to show the programs running in the backround and which ones are loading on startup. It used to be a oneline command in the Run box, like msconfig, but that doesn't seem to work with XP. Anyone know what it might be?

    Thanks

Holding down Control, and Alt, while hitting Delete will bring up the task manager. There you can see apps or processes that are running.

Running msconfig.exe and clicking on the Startup tab will show you what's loading at start up.

Thanks Thomas, I had not been adding the .exe in the command. All is well.

I can type msconfig in the run box without the .exe and it works. Maybe you misspelled it the first time around?

You're right Kev, it worked. I must of botched it before.

Don't forget you can also use regedit and go to \HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ru n and check in there for stuff that is ran upon start up.

I've found stuff in the registry (Quicktime comes to mind) that isn't listed in msconfig.

Freeware - XP Regclean is also an easy way to see what's running on startup etc with a nice, easy to use GUI
