Can Dirty Voltage Cause Problems for the Bulb Startup?

I have a Panasonic AE-900U, Latetly I received a lamp blinking light at the startup of the projector. After powering it off then back on a few times the projector came back up. I followed the dirrections in the manual about this problem.

    But...

I did notice that when the projector is cold(just turned on) I get jaggy's for the first minute and a couple of horizontal lines that keep scrolling up the screen. The projector is plugged directly into the wall outlet. I then ran an extension cord over to a surge strip that has some amount of line conditioning, I could not believe the difference!!!! The jaggy's were gone and the moving horizontal lines were gone.

I have not received an lamp error since I plug the projector into the surge/conditioner strip.

Could this be causing the lamp error's also????

Sure dirty power could be the problem. Some electronics are more sensitive to crappy power than others. Of course if the problems come back, it might have been something else. But the lines scrolling up the screen certainly look like it could have been caused by power issues.

My experience with the lamp dropping out or having a hard time striking up initially were related to the bulb getting old, but certainly cold weather could affect this as well.

horizontal lines definitely caused by power; I've heard that many times before

Absoluitely, and likely will shorten your lamp's life.

          Thanks guys,

I have another surge/conditioner on order. The lamb start problem has NOT come up since the projector has been plugged into the strip.

I'm now a believer in line conditioning...

what your doing is simply line filtering, your filtering out some of the noise in the line from Radio Frequencies and possibly some ground loop issues? True power conditioning is a different animal, it invloves changing AC to DC and back to AC. It's also very expensive but this company offers a lot fo products to do both and has some interesting explanations on their web-site.
