    Two way remote?

    Hi all,
Currently I'm using a Pronto to control my home media system. Its working well as far as the 'send commands and have them executed' context. In fact, its working incredibly well for that! I have a really complex distributed A/V system throughout the entire house and its completely Wife Approved.

However I want to take the next step. I'd like a remote that I can really program for, not just IR codes but also being able to push information back into it. Why? So that you can do things like browse iTunes playlists on it, view the Meedio movie library from it etc etc. Basically, to start controlling my system without needing an NTSC interface for it.

At this point cost is not a huge issue, I'm just looking at what my options are. In fact, I don't even mind writing completely custom code on top of a linux base OS if required.

    Anyone have any ideas?

    Tx

    John,

Perhaps you should contact one of our sponsors Media Design Center, and see what information and equipment they can recommend for you.

Also visit this URL and peruse the appropriate Chat forums:

Wow... Do you know what you're asking?? Price might be no object, but your looking at at least $4k for an AMX or Crestron system. Something very few people here can do, and nothing you could do without some training and the software. You are asking for something that our sponsors can provide (At a cost) and there is no magical answer for you.

Yes there is options out there for DIY's, and remotecentral is a good place to start. The area you are about to get into is highly specialised, I wouldn't expect HTGuide to be able to provide you with answers.

John, expanded use remotes beyond basic Pronto types is not really most HT forum's forte, it's a highly specialized area left to dealers that are trained as such. Nor do we tell you we offer free programming services here, or programming advice at all. As you can see, our remote section is unmanned, it's merely watched after by our staff. But even if it was manned, our best experience would be what most people call for, and that's Pronto type experience.

We offer our members a place to ask questions yes, a place to talk among yourselves, that does not mean we are remote "GODs" that always have solutions. Nor does it mean you should expect us to always have solutions. Sometimes, the best answer we can offer is to try and point you in the right direction.

Your comment was totally without thought or consideration, and at this point, given this remark, and your attitude, perhaps it truly is better for you to find someplace else to ask your questions about remotes, as we have nothing here for you beyond what was offered. Acting like that as part of our community when we are trying to assist with finding a solution is just not welcome.
