    XBox 360 revealed photos

    Well not until "official" confirmation:

Breaking news from the worlds of technology and entertainment, and expert reviews of the latest consumer tech products.

Until Microsoft makes their official announcement on it, this one is still firmly in the rumor category, but we’ve gotten word from one of our trusted sources that Microsoft has pretty much settled on a name for the next Xbox: the Xbox 360 (let that sink in for a moment, because you’re probably going to be hearing it a lot for the next several years). Our source, who has worked on several projects involving the Xbox and the Xbox 360, has seen the proposed packaging and other design elements for the new console, and says that as of right now the console is being branded as the “Xbox 360.” That’s definitely not that first time we’ve heard that mentioned as one of the possible names for the next-generation Xbox; last year a marketing firm conducted a survey where they asked people whether they thought Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, or Nintendo N5 sounded more “next-gen” (apparently Microsoft was worried that calling their new console the “Xbox 2” would make it seem older or less “cutting-edge” than the PlayStation 3).

Sell crazy someplace else, we're all stocked up here.

I can't wait to see what some of the games are going to look like on these systems. Hopefully they will be AWESOME (not so much graphically, but fun wise).

It will be a tough decision what to get, I've been a Sony Playstation person mainly and would've gotten really into Xbox if it wasn't for the fact I dislike their controllers...

But it really has impressed me that the PS2, for being a year older than the Xbox, as kept up with the Xbox as well as it has (graphically). That says a lot of the Sony developers...

I sort of have my view point of the Blu-Ray vs. HD-DVD dilemma, I wish there was only one, so I could play all the cool games as it does get expensive buying both systems, games, hardware...blah!

Nintendo, I just don't see them competing... Their Gamecube, albeit cool, was really a joke compared to the PS2 and Xbox...

Yeah, its gonna be a while before I pony up to any of the new systems. Only good things will come...the quality/selection of games will improve over time and not to mention price will drop sustantially.

There are still numerous great games for xbox and ps2, GT4, Forza, Halo2!! With online play, if all your buddeis don't purchase the new xbox makes it even more difficult to justify the cost.

Still, can't wait to try it out!!

I haven't been keeping up... will the '360 be backward compatible with the original's games?

not natively no, the new xbox will use PowerPC chips and not X86. so if they do play it will be through emulation. last i heard microsoft was not going to provide this emulation because if they did a person could put tons of Xbox games on the Xbox360's much larger hard drive. From what i understand microsoft has gone out of their way to prevent the hacks that are so popular with the current Xbox.

It might be backwards compatible with the HDD version of the 360. That hasn't been announced yet officially. Each game is between 1-4GB, and HDD is supposed to be around 20 or 40 GB.

They always try to do that...it's ussually hacked/modded within a few weeks...look at PSP for instance...it's only been out for a few weeks and you can already use it for web access and not to mention there is a gameboy emulator for it already...it will be hacked..it's just a matter of time...just as though pics seemed to make it to the web(but nobody knows how they got out), somebody will figure a way...even if it's a microsoft employee releasing some sort of hack for it....

Myself and about 6 or 8 buddies that play FPS games on Xbox Live are already committing to getting the Xbox 360 on launch day.

Rumors still abound about the guts in each system, some saying the PS3 will have better hardware. But I find it hard to believe that the processing power of the PS3 could generate a better picture than the screenshots and videos that I have seen for the Xbox 360. They are pretty stunning. Obviously the coming years will only see better and better graphic improvements, but they are really good for right now.

The main kicker for us is Xbox Live. It blows away Sony's online gaming IMO.

Wow...i watched that xbox 360 special on mtv last night...they didn't show us anything...i was expecting to get major insight on what companies have signed on and a lineup of games that will be immediately availble upon release, but got none of that...if anybody didn't see it, you did not miss much. overall...it was extremely disappointing...hopefully next week at E3 will answer all of those questions and give a concrete shipping date..

I haven't gotten into gaming systems yet, mostly because I already waste way too much time and $$$ with cars and home theater. But I may just have to get a 360.

                          Was anyone else laughing...

The MTV 30 minute thing, I was watching and some of the videos on the screens behind them...the games look like they were lagging and jittery at points. I even re-watched it and noticed it again. I was sort of surprised by that, I figured they'd make sure to show no slowdown on any of the videos they displayed.

It definitely is cool to see they went with a liquid cooled solution, so that it isn't noisy and it runs (the 3 cpus on a single chip) cooler than the original Xbox CPU! :T
