    Plasmas High on Wall?

Why do all the decorating shows (and some TV shows) have their plasma TV's mounted high on the wall? Do they think it's a picture to be hung? They must be at least 5-6' high to the bottom of the screen, sometimes even higher over a fireplace mantle. Drives me crazy! It should be at a normal viiewing level.

I think a lot of the time it's beacause (in someone's opinion) above the fireplace is the only place for the display. It's a compromise where the designer sets the room for stiiting and talking etc, most times with the fireplace as a focal point. So if you've got all the furniture aimed at a fireplace where do you put a display? Above the fireplace that's where. You'll notice these designers are usually the same people who think it's a great idea to hide those "ugly" electronics, displays and speakers behind cabinet doors, screens etc and crammed out of the way in to a corner with no thought or concern given to the functionality or heat concerns etc of the equipment. They'll put those speakers where they look best/can be hidden, not where they sound best.

I think they should be ceiling mounted over the head of the bed ...

Absolutely Thomas! Once again, you show why you are a poobah. :B

Seriously tho', plasmas - due to their weight and size - give designers LOTS of opportunities to put them where they shouldn't be. At least, in our opinions as HT afficianados.

OK, so here’s the deal: I am a semi-retired engineer who loves DIY home improvement and tinkering with new things. I’m also a fairly competent woodworker, and all those things have collided recently in a project requested by the wife (hereafter referred to as “CEO”). It is a fairly ambitious...

Well, I've reached the phase in the (re)construction of my house where the home theater design needs to be hashed out and finalized, and any possible issues dealt with before too long.

The new room is going to be an interesting shape. I can't easily describe it in words, so I'll have to...

          TV hight above fireplace
          by c019740
I have a family room that is 13 x 20 with 8 ft ceiling. I want to place an LCD above the fireplace that is in the middle of the 13 ft wall. I was wondering if there is a formula or general info that could guide me and tell me if the television would be too high on the wall above the fireplace for comfortable...

          Hi Guys,

I have a family room theater and currently own 3 GR-Research AV2's and two AV1RS surrounds. I love them dearly but a future remodel of the family room has me looking at "in-wall" or "in-wall cabinet" designs for my front 3. I'm 80% HT and 20% music of all kinds....

I am making progress on the subwoofer and learned a decent amount from that build. Moving on the weakest link in my system really is the center channel. I have an old Martin Logan low end center channel that likes to kill amplifiers..
