    HDTV and providers

I was surfing the Bell canada website looking for info on dial up accounts for my parents when I saw a link for HDTV. What I saw when I clicked the page horrified me though. They are attempting to show the differences between widescreen and full screen which I applaud but take a look at the images they are using to do it I wrote them a nice long letter explaining the problem's etc but if the people providing the service don't understand I think we're in for a long long haul...

Between this type of thing and the push by some vendors to put only P&S on DVD's, widescreen and HDTV doesn't have a chance unless we become advocates for them.

I'm always signing any petitions that come along for this type of thing.

If you see any, post them on this site!

Down the road you should be able to walk into your average TV department, and the majority of the TV's should be 16:9 and DVD's should have widescreen as the norm, or at the very least widescreen with P&S on the other side.

      Arrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhh!!!!!!

Read one of the letters in Stereo Guide to Home Theater (February 2002) that says he doesn't care what is happening off to the right or the left of the main character when watching a movie.

Sheesh. Why would the director go to the extra expense to put action, props, etc. there if it didn't do something to the overall enjoyment and telling or the story if it wasn't needed.

      ... Greg :-(

Guys although many of us would like to see HDTV grow to its fullest very early and all movies only on DVDs, we must not forget the masses of the people whom also have a long way to go accepting and understanding this technology. Many would be angry at broadcasters and the likes for forcing them to change their pride and Joy (4:3) big and/or small screen televisions to mega widescreens.

In Canada it would be hell to do a complete change-over in a short run. However, I'd prefer it sooner than later..........Just like the telephones in the early '80s (remember) the change from rotary to touch-tone.

I agree it will be a long time coming but my point was that if the people selling the technology don't understand it the general public isn't going to stand a chance

Andrew do you have the ExpressVu "HD" 6000 set top Box? If so, how is it so far? My wife works for the company and we are considering it.

                    Thanx

It didn't take long for widescreen to spoil me.

Since I've gotten my new HDTV widescreen monitor I've been surfing trying to learn more about when I would be able to really take advantage of viewing OTA widescreen broadcast and exactly what digital television would bring to the table...

Every once in a while, something pops up on my HD television channels that bugs me. These happen both on my OTA local HD antenna channels and satellite HD. I'm new to the world of HDTV. I just bought a great Mitsubishi 48" HD Ready TV (WS-48315) and get my TV broadcasts from Time Warner in LA via a digital HD receiver/DVR that I'm very happy with. The HD channels look fantastic, the non HD broadcasts on non HD channels (F/X, Spike TV etc.) aren't...
