    Infocus X1...whatch ya thinka?

    Hey duders!

I think I am going to buy an X1 today.....reviews say it is wonderful...I have seen it in person on a gyproc wall on flat paint...and....

I want to do 106" diagonal...

Also should I go with a grey screen or white
    Tell me what you think!

    Thanks guys!

So long as you don't see rainbows from the 1X colour wheel they're a nice projector. Go with a silver/grey screen for optimal results as well...there's a thread below about the screen I did using silver paint.

Also 106" is a little large for this range of PJ...most people tend to use these at 92" but it also depends on how far back you intend on sitting

Owners of this great little PJ love it. Unfortunately, those who are bothered by rainbows just can't take this projector. My PJ is a 4x color wheel and I can see these color flashes. Fortunately they are rare for me and do not bother me. I'm not sure I could say the same for the Infocus X1 and its much slower color wheel. Make sure you check it out first, Bam. Also, I may be wrong here, but seems there is a connectivity issue with the X1, no component inputs or something like that. Still, if the rainbow thing doesn't bother you, this little PJ is one great bargain.

        Bam!

Basically, the X1 was designed for 4:3 business presentations and also serves as a nice home theater projector, but with some compromises, including the slow color wheel and limited connection options. You might want to wait another month and check out the forthcoming Infocus Screenplay 4805 which builds on the good features of the X1 and was designed for home theater from the get-go.

The 4805 will have a significantly faster color wheel than the X1 so it will be less susceptible to the rainbow effect, and will be optimized for 16:9, with no light spill in that mode the way some users have complained about with the X1. Reportedly it will also have "real" component connections rather than having to use a kludgy component-to-S-Video connector. It will also have a digital video connector (DVI with HTCP). Infocus 4805 Press Release

Of course. if you just have to have a projector "today", and if you can get a really good deal on the X1, (like, say, less than $850 USD) it is still a very nice unit and worth a try. Just be sure you can take it -- or any DLP projector, for that matter -- back for a full refund in case you find that the rainbows are a problem.

        Good luck -

        Burke

I'd suggest waiting for the 4805 too. Even if the slow colour wheel doesn't affect you and your family, what about guests? Not to mention that in this day I wouldn't be getting a 4:3 display no matter the form. The DVI input will be fo great benneift to you as well as you're plan on doing a HTPC. (By the way I think Burke meant to say DVI with HDCP)

Bam! you might also strongly consider the Studio Experience 1HD that several of us (incl me) own and love. AVDeals.ca has them on for $1599 at the moment here. Its a true 16:9 PJ, has the incredible lens shift feature for easy installs, is 1/4 HD so HD material looks stunning on it and its got a good warrenty. There's a dealer in Quebec too that used to have good deals on that unit as well but I see their site has changed a lot and most of it is now in french Quebec Audio

Yep -- I was thinking "DVI with HDCP which would be good if you want to do HTPC" and sort of got the alphabet soup stirred up. :>) Thanks for the typo correction.

                                Hey Duders!

Well my 1056 is in and plugged up...and....My X1 DLP projector is quite simply stunning

I am officially content, While I have some buddies who are true fanatics and know the X1 really...I'll leave the tweaking to them! I exhausted..last 4 days have been ridiculous....

The blacks are already quite nice but they said there a few things they can do to kick it up a notch (Bam!)

Woo whoo! That's all the energy for now!

Ahhh, Bam, isn't the wonderful world of front projection great. I've been enjoying this since the early 90's. Started with a 60" RPTV, then went to a Zenith crt front projector, then to a Sony VPL400Q ( the first widescreen lcd projector) and now to the NEC HT1000K dlp projector that I truly love.

I'm not sure if you got a rebate when buying your X1, or even if the rebate is good in Canada. But it would be worth looking into for a possible extra $100 off. 8)

Here's an initial review on the 4805.

                                              Infocus 4805 pre-shipping review

Bam: How noisy is your unit? If I was to buy the X1 or the 4805 and had it directly above my head when I was sitting down, would it drive me nuts?

In my 10 x 10 room, I don't have the pleasure of putting it anywhere behind me.

I have my X1 mounted directly overhead and find it minorly distracting on very quiet scenes but not at all audible when there is normal movie noises happening. My Home Theater room is very quiet to begin with. The X1 makes about as much noise as my Sony pc.

Hmmmmmmmm....... the sound of ANY PC that close would distract me. I'm going to have to preview some of these FP's to see if I would even want one due to the noise factor.

Believe me,when you see a great looking 7' wide image in your HT room you can find it quite easy to live with a little fan noise. And if you find it to distracting you can always build a hush box.

                                                      Gregorarooney!

Trust me the noise is next to nill......And yes a hush box could be built....but I have never heard (yet) of someone not buying a FP because of the noise factor........so it is very minimal....have you ever heard anyone complain of noise

Anyways.....take care bud....lots of action in TTP by the way!!!! 3 pages in one day!!!! :E

I'll bet TTP is going so fast these days in part due to the speed of the site, I'd say!

So much to read. But, now I'm really starting to groove on the rest of the site. I'm getting my second wind on HT, and want to know more. (No cash to buy all the stuff yet, but I want to really get to know what I'm looking at before buying).

                                                        Thanks everyone!
