Got a great deal on a Infocus 4805

I have been reading everyone's posts and trying to figure out what would work best for my new basement home theater. I decided on the Infocus 4805 projector because of the reviews and the price. I got mine for $1399 with a 106" Draper screen from shopathometv.com (I also opted for the stretch pay which splits it 5 ways over 4 months, $279)

I do have a few questions about what I need to get it up and running as soon as it arrives. What am I going to need to hook up a dvd player and cable? I am new to HDtv as well (I am definetly a newbie for sure, but I appreciate everyones help) do I need a seperate box from the cable company? Also I am looking for a cheaper way to mount from ceiling compared with the manufacture's. One last question.. my current dvd player is on its last leg, I have been reading positive reviews on the Zenith DVB318 , would this be a good match for my new projector?

Thanks everyone for your help picking out this projector and thanks in advance for help getting it up and running.

congrats and envious of your new purchase...

Do you have a receiver that does component switching or video switcher? If you do, then you'll only need to run one video cable to the projector itself from your receiver, and let the receiver switch the video mode. If you're not willing to pay more for the projector mount then you can probably put a shelf on your back wall, although I'm not sure how that'll effect the ventilation issue. Let me know when you get it, I'm curious on how loud the projector actually is.

The only thing I have purchased for my setup as of yet is the projector. I have an existing surround sound system that I am going to use for now. I am looking for a dvd player that would be a good match and the best way to hook it up. I plan on only watching dvd's and tv (possibly hdtv?) I am not sure exactly how to get it all setup yet but it's sure fun learning. Thanks Rob

I ended up going with the Zenith DVB318 and a cheap mount off of ebay. I still have to hook everything up so any help from you guys would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Rob

well, like i said before, you should get a receiver that does some kinda of video switching so you'll only need one video cable connected to the 4805. I don't have the 4805 myself, but I heard that DVI will give you the best picture.

Do you have any suggestions on a receiver?

I ended up purchasing a JVC JXS111 HD switcher from amazon.com, I hope this is a quality unit. I still am a bit confused with the m1 to dvi adapter, Infocus makes an adapter and they also make a 30 foot m1 to dvi cable which would seem to be a great solution because of the length needed to reach the projector. My only concern is that the 30 foot cable is too long to carry a quality signal. I only need a total of 15 feet to reach my projetor. Anyone know if this cable is a quality option. Whats the use of going the dvi route and losing quality because the cable is so long? Thanks, Rob

The cables Infocus model number is SP-M1-10M

I am considering returning my JVC switcher and going with a Gefen DVI 2x1 switcher. Does going from component cables to DVI cables improve the quality of the picture considerably? I am also looking for a universal remote. I have to place my stack of boxes behind the seating and need something so I won't have to turn around and operate. I was considering the One For All Kameleon remote. Thanks

I wouldn't worry about the 30' DVI run as it's a digital connection and the cables are well shielded. I'm still researching a DVI switcher, and may go with just a splitter instead. DVI picture quality is slightly better, but it's more for copy protection than quality as RGB and progressive component are very high bandwitdh connections (as you can see with high resolution PC displays).
