Optoma has had lots of issues with their projectors. Epson, on the other hand, seems to produce a pretty good product. That would be my choice.

If I'm not mistaken, the Optoma is a DLP and the Epson an LCD. I am bothered by DLP rainbows, so I went for an LCD. I've seen some nice DLP projectors and, aside from the rainbow issue (sensitivity to which varies greatly), they can be quite good. I'm quite happy with my LCD (a Sony AW15), despite its incorporation of a dynamic iris (that I don't notice except on VERY rare occasions) to get good black levels. The slightly deeper blacks I've seen on many DLPs (though not all) do not outweigh the rainbows for me.

I have both technologies in my theater. I do prefer the dlp picture over lcd, but lcd has indeed come a long way since my first Sharp model back in 1992.

I've had an Optoma projector once and never had any issues. And their customer service is excellent.

My Optoma went down within the first year of ownership. I wasn't happy but, Optoma had it fixed and back in my hands in less than a week.
