    Need a new larger 1080p TV..Suggestions?

    Hi!

I will soon be in the need for a large TV for the family room.
Currently we have a 56" Toshiba CRT RPTV.
It's going on the blink as I type this.

Anyways, I would like to go with the 56", 58", 60"
    size for this room.
70" could be considered, but may be too big.
I want to be able to also watch HD DVD and BlueRay,
so would be adiment that the TV is able to reproduce
    the FULL 1080P.

I like the Sony SXRD set's, but not sure which set over all, ultimately is the best out there at this time.

So, any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Trevor

    My quick suggestions:

    1) Pioneer PDP-6070HD
    2) Sony KDS-60A2000
    3) Sony KDS-R60XBR2 (Bells and Whistles)
    4) Mistsubishi WD-73831 (Wow factor)
    5) Pioneer Elite PRO-1540HD ($$ to burn)

This should get you started, I would personally pick door #3.

BTW, Trevor, have you played Gears of War yet, it is truly a great game.

    Peace and blessings,

    Azeke

      Hey Trev :later:

Yeah I'd probably go with the Sony SXRD sets for 1080p right now too. The 1080p plasmas have LOUSY CR and are $$, not a fan of wobulated 1080p DLP's, there's 1080p LCD's but unless it's a bright room PQ will suffer plus they're $$ and not readily available in the sizes your looking at.... Unfortunately there's not a ton of quality 1080p options quite yet.

          Thanks Azeke!
After I had posted this I was doing some research and came up with number 3 as a choice.
The XBR has more to it than enhanced sound.
The Wega HD engine is one and 3 HDMI inputs is a good thing.

Gears of War is on my Xmas list.
Currently playing Resistance Fall of Man on the PS3.

Plus the SXRD's have come down in price a lot since last year.

One thing to be cautious about, some of the SXRD's only support up to 1366X768 on VGA inputs, so check the specs carefully. the KDS 60A2000 is one of them- won't play nice with an Xbox 360 HD-DVD player.

Thanks for the heads up Jon!

I would imagine the Sony KDS-R60XBR2
                      is a safe investment though.?

That's only the VGA (PC) input though isn't it Jon? the rest of the inputs are fine.

Have you seen the new Sharp Aquos models? They have some larger LCDs that support 1080p, and the sets themselves look very sharp (no pun intended...).

They're pretty nice as well but they're pretty hefty $$$ for the larger sizes and they still really only work well in a BRIGHT environment....not sure if that's applicable to Trevor's needs? ....Trev?

Most of our TV watching is done in the evenings.

I really like the Sony XBR SXRD..
Going to look at the 60"'s and 70"'s today.
