    DLP or LCD

I am lookiing at making a purchase on a projector, but wanted some advice on what to look for when buying?
I am in Australia and am looking at the Panasonic PT Ae700 and the BenQ PE770. One is DLP and one is LCD and am unsure as to what would give better picture quality and what the difference between the 2 are.
i am looking to spend around $2000AUD and these 2 are around that mark.

Lcd has come a long way, but I still feel that dlp offers the best blacks. The problem with dlp is that some people are bothered by certain artifacts such as rainbows caused by a spinning color wheel. Some see this artifact when you have a dark outline against a light background. Others are also bothered by headaches. I own both dlp and lcd, but have to say my preferred Pj is the dlp unit. I have had many people in watching movies in my HT while using the dlp PJ and have never had anyone complain of seeing rainbows or having headaches, but there certainly is a percentage of the population who are indeed bothered by this. You have to see dlp before you buy it, that's or sure.

What I recommend to clients is not only the points that George brings up but, DLPs are relatively maintenance free. I just recommended the Infocus 76, and he and his wife love the picture, it's a matter of personal preference and there are many other factors to consider, i.e. throw distances, lens shift, zoom, offsets, etc.

This URL provides some basic information:

      DLP vs LCD

Remember that beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, physically view whatever projectors you can, also factor in lamp cost and warranty. Just my quick thoughts.

      Peace and blessings,

well I would have to recomend niether one, there's quite a few CRT guys in Oz and you should try and see one of those. IMO it's still the best pic out there and only 3-chip LCOS comes close .
hceck out this primer, it's a good read

Yeah CRT!!!! There's lots of us down here.

What's lamp cost? And why do you need a "warranty"? Do they break in a couple of years??? Rainbows..what's that? HA.

But they aren't plug and play, and you typically can't plug in an ordinary DVD player (you need a scaler, an upscaling player ($200) or a PC). And they aren't real portable.

          But the picture...mmm....

Not for everyone though, but if you are a tweakaholic videophile on a budget, they are perfect.
