    Star Wars Episode 3

has anyone else seen this yet? Wathed it last night and it's quite possibly the best transfer to DVD yet. Pic was razor sharp, APL's were abosultely perfect, and the black levels were amazing. Lots of very dark scenes and start-fields that made my big-ole CRT PJ really shine.:E Of course the soundtrack is top notch, even my Colorado basement HT was pretty warm with the amps working that hard.

    We're discussing it here:

I didn't think it was the best transfer I've seen. I've seen better from film.

I just added it to my netflix Q, not really a big batman fan but I hear it's more serious than the last few.

Well, I've got my 9PG+ put in storage, and soon I'll be setting up my NEC 10PG. Batman Begins and Episode III are both on the list for early viewing after I get things going... maybe Thanksgiving, but more likely the Xmas break. Actually, I've got a ton of backlog in unwatched movies; I've been living on TV on DVD for the small amount of entertainment time I have available the last few month. Will be looking forward to seeing "Alias" on the big tubes, too, if season 4 looks anywhere near as good as the previous ones.

BTW, what I'm REALLY dying to see is the Batman Begins 1080 trailer and the Serentiy 1080 trailer that I have... now if only we could get some real HD disks.

well you got some major catching up to do. I would also recomend the entire Firefly series on DVD, great show and important to watch before you see the movie. I think everyone with a display capable of 720P or better has been awaiting HD discs. I'm so tired of upscaled 480P, even with a pretty powewrful HTPC I still see occasional judder on pans and other anomolies which I shouldn't even have to deal with on an Analog display, but for now it will remain garbage in garbage out

I've got the Firefly DVD, watched them twice, been to the movie twice. Enjoyed them quite a bit.

watched Serenity at home last week, Sooooo much better than the local theatre, both pic and sound. I even purchased the DVD, which I don't do often but I wanted to support a Maverik movie maker like Joss and hopefully contribute to future efforts. I know the movie cost 40-million and only brought in 25 at box-office. Hopefully DVD sales put them into the black.

They will. foreign sales will as well. Most films now bank on those markets in order to make money.

funny, just bought the Firely set at costco yesterday for 30 bucks. I sure hope he picks up the story line again, somewhere between where the series left-off and movie started. Hopefully this time it's on any network but Fox, maybe PBS if we're lucky?

I was given the Serenity movie at Christmas (it was near the top of my list), and now all I have to do is find time to setup the projector, as unlike my TV on DVD fare, I won't watch this on a computer. Looking forward to that and Episode III, which I didn't see at the movie and haven't seen at all. Also have all three Lord of the Rings to look forward to, even much older movies "in the vault" like Saving Private Ryan.

I hope you haven't been working on your HT since Saving Private Ryan came out on DVD, I think the great Pyramids were built in less time than that . I built my theatre to watch Fellowship OT Ring un-cut version on DVD. I wouldn't watch it anywehre else either until my theatre was ready. People still think I'm a little wacky when I tell them that but great movies deserve great presentations. I mean you wouldn't eat Filet Mignon in your car like you would a cheeseburger right?

Heck, I don't even eat Cheeseburgers in my car! (cheeseburgers in an Acura?)

The problem is, after getting the new projector, I took out the NEC 9PG+, then haven't had time to put in the new one. And Saving Private Ryan and some of the others are just because I didn't have spare time to watch... building speakers takes a lot of free time, and haven't had much of that the last year.

Star Wars Episode 3 on DVD looked very good, as did Serenity.
Batman Begins is a DVD that's on my list to buy. It was a good departure from the comic-based-visuals early movies that got progressively more like cheesy music videos as they went on.

At this rate I'll have the Serenity HD-DVD before I have a chance to watch anything... considering how good the 1080P trailer looks, it might be worth the wait. I really wasn't expecting it to be in the early HD-DVD releases.

im glad my dvd collection isnt that big yet lol as with the projected prices of hd dvd's im probably going to be only buying hd dvd's ...i dont see blu ray taking off that well as the players are going to be way pricey and all that.... the only reason i'll buy a ps3 right away is for a blu ray player lol i wish they made a universal format rather then all this crap....its going to end up costing me tons if i invest in both =/...
