    Pocket DLP

Don't remember if this was posted on the forum anywhere, but Mitsubishi and BenQ are coming out with a tiny LED driven DLP projector this summer for about $600.

Spiffy doesn't begin to cover it. For theater-on-the-go.

VERY cool! Thanks for the info. LED-driven means no bulb replacement, and cooler operation. Plus no more color wheel/rainbow issues for the tiny DLP projectors.
I only wonder how bright they will be. Hopefully brighter than the 27"-capable prototype model shown.

One of our R&D guys has one on order (they get all the cool toys). Supposedly 100 lumens or such at this point. I'll try and get a look at it. May even get to use one in some application. Maintenance would like it for just the reasons you mention.

100 Lumens? What size screen do you think would be right for that? 36"?

I bet it's designed for biz presentations on the go... the gals around here in Mktg and sales that don't like the weight of their IBM notebooks would probably love this.

D6500 grayscale, of course? What about Faroudja DCDi?

Now, just build a cell processor into it to handle scaling and emulation of windows for running PowerPoint, and the biz folks will love it.... :B

I think they are stating 27" max screen.

Well, it's sure to be lighter than carrying around a 27" TV!

Maybe not for HT use then, except maybe in a tent or camper.

Maybe they'll offer a larger version with more LEDs and more lumens.

Depending on the multiplex rate of the DLP and LEDs, it could still exhibit a rainbow or flicker effect, since it would be displaying one primary color at a time.

Sounds like it would be ideal for watching a DVD or TV in the bedroom.. Perhaps on the ceiling?

I can imaging those in airplanes instead of the little LCD screens. a 27" screen would be pretty fun projected onto the seat back of the chair in front of you.

You could easily see it used in SUVs for movies and games for the kids in the back seat.

Also of course for on-the-fly business presentations, especially when there was no wall plug around and a small group to watch the show.

If they get the resolution and brightness up then it could replace the 20" LCD flat screens for some applications.

I love the way technology is advancing.
I can't imagine what we will see 3 years from now.

It will in fact still exhibit color fringing, although I will bet is is substantially reduced. I'll let you know once I see one.
