    Posts per page

It looks like the current default is 45 posts per page.

I find it a bit annnoying, as it takes a while to scroll down to the bottom or also for the pages to fully load quickly.
It's possible to change it in the Settings, but do you think the default should be lower or not?

Great question! What do other members think?

well, I'm not expecting anyone to listen to me, but I like the longer number of posts per page compared to the old days. Means you can follow a fair amount of explanatory info on a project without having to shift pages or hunt for the page its on.

At the same time, I do realize that my preferences and ways of doing things can be a bit outside the norm, what with my 3rd grade teacher in Lawton Oklahoma having issues with me because I totally blew up the grading curve for the class, and she had to borrow a testing machine from the high school to figure out why... or how much! (as a couple of friends have quipped, its like she discovered I had a Marvel Universe reading super power, but she had no idea what the Marvel Universe was, and of course, unfortunately for me, they don't make movies about someone with a reading super power.

My point here is that my reading preference may not reflect those of a lot of forum members.

And, BTW, 3rd grade is a VERY difficult level to teach, because there is such a wide span of capability in the class- many students have yet to make progress that they've held on to after summer break, and come in essentially needing a 1st grade refresher, and others have lost the progress of half or more of second grade. Really. So a teacher must assess early on, establish a median level and use basic standard deviation to come up with a grading curve that doesn't upset the parents.

This modern article, "For Gen Alpha, Learning to Read is becoming a Privilege" highlights the difficulties that still exist in teaching reading for even relatively affluent middle class folks.

Whereas for a few of us, it is like breathing, and reading and taking in that article is very concerning and painful for me. I could max out the testing machine my 3rd grade teacher borrowed from the high school to assess me, with excellent comprehension test results, and high school students often struggle with that. And I didn't go to preschool or kindergarten, because we were stationed in Germany from the time I was six months old to 4-1/2, and had a live in HausFrau that must have spent a lot of time with me, because according to my parents, when we got back to the US, I was speaking mostly German. (there's a lot more back story to that which we don't need to get into).

So, I like long pages, but perhaps a wider number of inputs would be useful.

I like 20. Like most forums, it's user adjustable. Look under User Settings -> Account.

Reet's right- I've never seen that option before but never went looking for it either. I'm happy with the Default.

Thinking a bit about this yesterday, one factor that I can imagine having a big subjective impact on the desirable number of posts per page, is the speed of one's internet connectivity.

In my first rental moving to Idaho in Nampa, the only option for internet service was a connection that basically combined two low end phone related connections together. Fortunately that home was more a locale for dropping off stuff for months prior to the actual move.

Where I live now is in a new home built to spec in a new development, and I have fiber internet, with Quantum Fiber, and very high download and upload speeds, not just claimed but as I've actually tested. So, I'm something of a spoiled brat that takes it for granted- most of my friends live in older homes, some MUCH older, as in 80-100 years older, and the only way to get an upgrade is to go with one of the 5G cellular high band internet services.

In fact, Quantum Fiber here in Idaho is so good that AT&T just bought them... and no, I'm not an influencer for them or anyone else, but it's an interesting business model they have now.
