    Site is fast!

Just curious if anyone else is having the same problem? I'm on digital cable and have no problem accessing other forums. This one is just so slow(20-30sec to load). Any help would be great.

problem 1, we lost our server location recently and had to go to a backup location, that's not great. Mats is working to resolve this problem.

Best I can say, is be patient, or donate lots of cash to HTG for dedicated server and line. lol.

Seriously, I am sorry for the problem.

I've never had a problem with slow forum access, but every once in a while I can't access it at all and I get an error message. I assume the server is down at those times. I'll try to record the times it happens to see if it's just me.

Holy ancient thread revival Batman... the slowness was in reference to the prior server that HTG was on. We've been on a fast dedicated server since last May or so.

Nicholas, take note of when you have troubles accessing the site. Some people have had DNS issues from time to time.

Any time I can't get on its ALWAYS related to a DNS issue for my ISP. For some reason it only ever happens with HTGuide but I just keep a link to the IP in my favorites list for those odd times it happens...which hasn't been as frequently as it used to be.

I'm usually on most of the day - although I'm busy in other windows - and I haven't had anything but excellent performance and connectivity since we went to the new server. Evenings too. :T

Couldn't get on today from roughly 4pm to 7pm.

Came home tonight and I could get on fine.

Nicholas, there are sometimes issues unrelated to the forum or our server. As in access problems. So, while one person may have a problem, others may not. I can't say undoubtedly there was no problem during that period of time. But at least you know sometimes it's not our fault at all. Usually it's never just the forum software. It's almost always the server or another web issue.

                        Nicholas:

I too live in Massachusetts and the major time-period in which I have getting on HTGuide and some other sites is that 4 pm to 7 pm period when all of the school-kids and workers come home and go online. I have Comcase cable internet and for me it appears to be a simple bandwith issue at a peak time. How do you hook up to the Net? Yours problem may simply be a Internet provider issue. Good to speak to another Massachusetts HTGuider. Go Pats!!

A Music Server In The House
                          by David Meek
Santa brought me a rather neat present. It's a Roku Labs Soundbridge, model M1001. It's a music server that allows me to stream digital music from the hard drive of my PC to my main sound system. It also lets me stream Internet radio stations too. For what it's worth, I'd never heard of this company...

Jriver and CP800 remote control problem
                          by mattyw
I have recently upgraded my CP800 to Mk2 and it is working fine apart from one major problem. Having changed from USB to network connection the CP800 physical remote control no longer works correctly.

I am using JRiver (v21) on my server to connect to the CP800 via the network connection....

HTGuide will finally move to new location
                          by Mats
Our current server will be shut down on saturday which forces us to quickly make our move to the new server. This means that I will close the forum on Friday morning (European Central Time) just to be able to synchronize the database servers. This task needs to be done by midnight Friday since I'm uncertain...

Ok so there has been a lot of interest in the media server I mentioned that I was working on. So for now here is the parts list and a bit of info about how I'm going to approach the whole thing.

The motherboard, desktop level motherboards are quite capable these days as well as their processors....

A few months ago I uploaded all my CD's to my hard drive (in mp3 format). I was going to connect my computer to my HT system but have a few challenges with this (mostly the location of computer to HT equipment and I live in an apartment).
