    House of Sand and Fog

This is the most powerful film that I've seen in quite sometime! The story is based around a woman (Connelly) that loses her home through a mistake made by the county. The house is auctioned. It is purchased by (Kingsley), who is trying to repair his own issues of life and family. Thus starts the chain of events that leads to a heart felt and gripping film.

I found nothing lacking in this film. The acting across the board is fantastic. I never thought that something this depressing, could be so well told and acted, that it could or would be entertaining. This IMO is a must see film! Very emotional.

I hadn't heard much about this film and so had passed up renting it. Now I know I was wrong and will rent it soon. Thanks, John.

Saw it a couple of weeks ago. Loved it as much as you did. Can we saw intelligent plot, script, characterizations, etc. Without going into spoilers, the one that impacted me the most was Kingsley's wife in the film. There was something very touching and distinguished in the way she carried herself.

The more I see Kingley, the more I think he's one of this generations greatest actors. Hope you enjoy it Jason.

I have to agree with you Danbry39, Kingsley is at the top of the heap. You are also dead on about the performance of the character Nadia.

George, Aud19...I hope you enjoy this as much as I did.

Absolutely! Ghandi was all it took for me to put him in my small group of great actors. He's consistently impressive in his roles, and brings a sense of "truth" to them that many other actors couldn't.

Holy crap, that was Kingsley in Ghandi?

I also think that this was a good movie. I rented it recently and enjoyed it. I do think, though, that the movie went over the top at times with the story, and I was watching with the feeling that it wasn't really a story about real life situations of people. Yes, the situations were possible, but not rather improbable. Whether this is directly derived from the book or not I'm not too sure of.

I liked the extras and analyzing the individual characters of the film. Each one had very nice depth, which I think is the strength of the film. I won't be buying this one, but it got me interested and I might read the book. I'd give it a B+

Chris, yep that was him. As I understand it, all those situations were pretty much "as it happened". Lord Richard Attenborough was absolutely driven to make this film and IIRC took pains to insure the story was realistic. Hard to believe at times.

That role is the one that won Sir Kingsley the Oscar for best actor, too.

Finally got around to seeing this. I'll tell you, this is one powerful film. Acting from everyone einvolved was superb, with Kingsley, of course, standing a cut above the others. This is also one of those films where, after viewing it, you find yourself saying: Yes, this could happen.

Man, is it really that foggy in California ?

                      Hey George,

Glad you got around to seeing this film. I had a gut feeling that you would enjoy it.

I didn't think it was that far fetched either. And that is scary.

Man, is it really that foggy in California ?
Pretty close, if not exactly. I lived in the Seattle area of Washington for quite sometime. Went through northern California a few times. It's like being in oregon and the west side of washington. Nothing like southern cal.

Man that was a foggy place in the film. I'll bet they have to repaint their houses frequently.
