...not Oliver Stone at the top of his game.
Savages stars Aaron Johnson and Taylor Kitsch as military vets heavily involved in a hugely succesful marijuana growing operation. They share their love with attractive Blake Lively. A dirty DEA agent ( John Travolta ) is on the boys' payroll and helps keep the law at bay. But things go bad when Salma Hayak, as head honcho of a dangerous Mexican Baja drug cartel, insists that Johnson and Kitsch form a partnership with her cartel. When they refuse, Lively is kidnapped and the boys must agree to the partnership or come up with a 3 million ransom. A dangerous plan is hatched and sparks fly.
All in all, I sort of liked the film. There were flashes of Oliver Stone magic but the script suffered at times and the ending was poorly conceived. But for Stone fans, it's worth a watch.
