Rise of the Planet of the Apes

An enjoyable take that pays subtle but respectful little homages to the original films (and borrows, appropriately, from Conquest of the Planet of the Apes). A worthy modern take on the franchise. Fans of the original (as I am) should find this agreeable.

There's been complaints that viewers were disappointed because they were expecting to see all out warfare action between apes and humans, but such wasn't the case. I'm curious because it's a prequel so I will definitely rent it at least.

That "all out warfare action" will likely be in the sequel. However, I didn't think the film was lacking in action. It's rather more thoughtful than I expected and I'm never disappointed by more thoughtfulness.

Well, we're safe for now. Thank goodness we're in a bowling alley.

I picked this up after a stellar review from one of my friends who has been a fan of these movies from the originals.
I'm gonna sit down tonight and watch it. I'm excited to do so.

Yes, something that is often woefully lacking in much Hollywood fare.

Just a quick note: If you've liked the other two recent Apes movies, this one should be well up your alley. The effects are nothing short of remarkable and the film works both as a conclusion to a trilogy and an invitation to explore other themes in this film universe. Well worth seeing if you're a...

              Rega Planet 2000?
              by migliore
I see Rega has release a new planet. Anyone heard/seen one? Does Rega have a website yet? I don't have much information on it. I've been quite happy w/ my 1998 Planet.

I think they also re-did the Jupiter/IO into a one-box solution - is this true?

              Thanks,

The Fall of CDs and the Rise of Live Performances
              by bigburner
Here are some interesting extracts from an article called “Off the Record” by Robert Sandall from the August 2007 edition of Prospect Magazine:

In recent years, the economics of pop music have been upended. The market for CDs has collapsed, and not even the rise of legal downloading...
