Somewhat cliched with stock characters and thin plot, but entertaining when you don't want to think too much while watching a movie. Audio and video are top notch. Worth a rental.

Well, I finally remembered that this BD was waiting on me to view it. I popped it in the player, popped the popcorn, poured a big glass of Diet Coke and settled in.
<Full disclosure: I'm a military/sci-fi/us vs. aliens nut, so this movie is coming right down the middle of home plate for me.>
Overall, I like it a lot. The cast works out pretty well. The sets are good. The storyline is entertaining (although Paul is right about it being thin and the characters being kinda "stock"). PQ and SQ are excellent (my sub was happy, too). The little details are covered well as far as uniforms and weapons, which is important to my enjoyment of something like this. One thing I did note however is that a Copperhead (which they shot the controller down with) isn't a cruise missile. It's a projectile fired from a 155mm cannon.
Three of the actors are easily recognizable, and people I enjoy watching: Aaron Eckhart (The Core, Erin Brockovitch, The Missing, The Dark Knight), Bridget Moynahan (I Robot, Blue Bloods) and everyone's favorite kick-a** military gal Michele Rodriguez (Avatar, Resident Evil, S.W.A.T.). The rest of the cast is made up of actors that you probably won't recognize, but they do a creditable job in their roles.
If you are expecting Citizen Kane you'll be disappointed, but if you're looking for a couple of hours of mayhem/shoot 'em up then check out this movie. I give it :4: out of :5:..

Just saw it on the Starz channel. I liked it. Quite realistic with the battle scenes, even if they were fighting aliens. I liked how they didn't show too much too early, accurately capturing the "fog" and confusion of active warfare. Perhaps a bit even "too" accurate for me at moments, I'll just say.
Wasn't overwhelming, but a pretty good movie.

Like I said in the old thread (not sure where it is) this movie was based off a real event, not exactly the alien part but the event that started it happened in real life, military was shooting at an unknown object (couldn't see due to fog and what not) over the skies of LA. So kind of neat in that sense. I enjoyed it decently, certainly seemed pretty realistic and played out sort of like real life.- Bottom

I finally saw this movie on the weekend and quite enjoyed the whole experience. Somebody said in the other thread, it is like ID4 meets Blackhawk down. Worth a rental, I bought it as a previously viewed bluray.
In the extras, there is some talk about how the director got the job by presenting some demo footage he shot and put in some CG. I would have liked to have seen the full demo be included in the extra's. We get to see bits of it, but with the capability of bluray, I don't see why they didn't include this as an extra.Paul

I watched it on satellite TV the other night. Why bother having a plot or dialogue? Both were pathetic. Just have 90 minutes of shoot-em-up action, which was impressive. For a change it was nice to see aliens getting it in the neck instead of Iraqis or Afghans or <insert current enemy of freedom>.
Nigel.
PS Sorry, that might have been a bit offensive to people who enjoyed it. The movie made great late viewing when I was mentally drained, so it does have its place in the world.- Bottom

I agree; was not impressed at all. If I recall, I believe that I fast forwarded through most of the disc.Originally posted by bigburnerI watched it on satellite TV the other night.
