    Alien Anthology blu-ray

This is by far the best transition from an older movie to blu-ray!

I received this blu-ray box as a gift a few weeks ago. Hadn't really had a chance to watch it until last night. I watched Alien and Aliens (the second movie) last night. Man... this was a very impressive transfer to blu-ray! I have all the Alien movies on DVD. I had Alien and Aliens movie on VHS as well. I remember that comparing the VHS to the DVD was so nice and clean. The jump from DVD to blu-ray is an even bigger jump. I first watched Aliens (part 2), and the images were so clean... no graininess at all. The sound was really the best part. They really did the audio well.

But the biggest surprise was the original Alien. From the very start of the movie, the interior of the space shuttle scene looks like it was filmed around 10 years ago. Yes, the actual props look old, but the movie itself looks no where near 30 years old that it already is. So I thought perhaps it was just that scene, but as the movie goes on, every scene is so clean. Great contrast balance, great sharpness, you can see detailed skin texture like you can on blu-ray discs now. And even though the original movie is only in 4.0 surround, the sound engineers did a great great job of transferring that to a full HD format. Awesome sound the whole way through.

I can't say I've see too many older movies in blu-ray, but I've seen a fair amount. And seriously, this is by far the best transition from an older movie to blu-ray!

For any fan, it's definitely worth the purchase.

Most of the major Hollywood studios have a movie night for people that work in film where you can watch new releases, or about to be released, movies for free.

I still remember wandering into the little theater at Goldwyns' (don't know why Paramount used their screening room) after work with no idea what film was going to be projected. Of course, at this time, who knew about Alien. Man, when that creature came out the chest the whole audience went up in the air 6".

Is Aliens the longer directors cut? That little bit at the beginning really adds to the movie, I think. Usually longer director cuts are, well, just longer. I think in this case it added to the movie.

Yes, in the beginning of the movie, James Cameron speaks and said that there's 40 minutes extra that had to be cut here and there. I've seen Aliens enough time to pretty much have this movie memorized. Some parts were just a few extra seconds to a scene, some a minute or two. Some parts I found unneeded. But some parts actually helped the story.

You know, most of the deleted scenes I've seen in the bonus features of really great films have been really good and I wished they had been part of the theatrical release. Not the same experience for bad films however. They seemed too long already !! Hehehe!!

I didn't buy the anthology because the only two films in the Alien series I really liked were ALIEN and ALIENS. I recently picked these up for $15 CDN each. I watched Alien the other night and was pleased with the transfer. I'll watch Aliens probably sometime this week.

Same here. But I can't complain since it was a gift. :B

Man... I just finished watching it and I'm completely 100% disappointed! Please note that my favorite movie of all time is Aliens. So I'm in favor of liking a movie that has Aliens in it.

Story line continues from the end of Aliens vs Predator where they show a new hybrid burst out...

              "Ancient Aliens" Documentary
              by madmac

              Ancient Aliens :alol:

I popped this hilarious documentary series off my library shelves the other day in a fit of desperation for rainy day entertainment. It is a series that basically tries to convince it's viewers that we were visited by Aliens many times in the past...

Saw this yesterday in IMAX 3D. It was a "digital" Imax I was really impressed with the sound but the 3D I didn't feel was any different than the "RealD 3D" presentations that I have seen.

As for the movie itself I liked it though going into it I had already pretty...
