The King's Speech deserved all those Oscars

Probably not a film for everybody. It moves slow, is about The Royals, and if you have no knowledge about the Royal Family and its history, you may find it all a bit confusing. But this is one helluva movie with fantastic performances by Colin Firth in particular, but also great supporting performances by Geoffrey Rush, Helena Bonham Carter and Guy Pearce. The direction and the screenplay are right on the money. The story is basically about King George VI's speech impediment, how it affected his life and how he conquered it.

    A huge :T

Hi George, I just can't get past the notion that this is yet another slow moving, stuffy British film that I would be sure to fall asleep during.

I'm sure the performances are probably good but I need a tad bit more than that to hold me to a film. I'm going to pass on this one.

Quite an excellent movie! In an average year of films, I don't know that it rises to the level of "Best Picture of the Year", but it's still very good. Recommended to everybody. Not a stuffy British movie.

When I say " slow moving " it is more related to a lack of action and restricted settings. But the time taken to develop the characters is absolutely necessary. I really feel you are missing something by passing this one.

I agree--give it a chance! Those who are looking for fast-paced, explosive action films, will not find this movie (or many other excellent gems) in their preferred genre. But give it a shot as a product, and I think you'll find it is well worth the consideration.

Women have some sort of a knack at finding good films. My wife has come home with some dvd's that have been some of the best films I've seen, even though if I was in the video store alone, I would have never rented them!!!.

I enjoyed it (watched it yesterday) but it did not "outdo" either of my two favourites for film of the year--True Grit and The Social Network. Still, an enjoyable film worth watching.

                            DVD review: The King's Speech

And here I thought this movie was going to be another dull British Monarchy film. How wrong I was!!! This is an exceptional film and the character development, especially between the king and the speech therapist is fantastic!.

There relationship and how it develops is fun to watch. If you have not seen this film, you really owe it to yourself to check it out. :T

                            9/10 stars...This is a classic! :E
