    The tourist

I rented The tourist with Jolie and Pitt simply because it was nominated for a number of Academy Awards but alas, it was quite terrible.

Just straight out Hollywood crap!. Cinematography is nice though....especially if you watch it on Blu ray. That's about it however!!

I believe you meant Jolie and Depp.

Yeah, I haven't read anything good about this film. I'm probably going to have to rent it because my wife is a huge Angelina fan, so I'll just make sure it's on blu-ray so i can enjoy the cinematography.

I agree with Madmac. Not a very good movie. And, I agree with him about the cinematography. Extraordinary lighting work from John Seale. Venice is an extremely difficult place to work, especially to try and light large night scenes.

Your wife is the Angelina fan?

I'll take a peek at this, maybe, when the blu-ray is not in the new releases section at my local store, 'cause, um, my wife, yeah…that's it, my wife is a fan of Angelina…

I'm guessing for a low cost rental, the eye candy should be worth it.

You must have enjoyed Salt, then. She's in almost every shot (and let me just say I'm happy she took over for Tom Cruise in that role--I'll leave it to others to figure out why ).

Huh... "Salt" was originally set up to be male, with Tom Cruise? Never heard that.

Yep. He ended up leaving the project because he thought it resembled the Mission Impossible film series a bit too much (especially when he found out there was talk of turning it into a franchise character). A google search will turn up more details if you are interested (some interesting bits about how they re-configured the character and story can be found).

Yeah, I can see that, about the MI similarity. I didn't know that they were talking about turning the Salt character into a series, either.

At the end of the day, check The Tourist out for the Jolie 'eye candy' and the beautiful cimematography. And of course, be SURE to see it on Blu Ray for god's sake!!!

Well I did this and to be honest, the wife and I both enjoyed this film. In fact, I was surprised, after all I read here and elsewhere, that I wasn't bored at all. Just goes to show, different strokes for different folks.

Yep !! It's like tastes in music as well. One man's food is another man's poison. One of the best films I've seen this year is "Eat, Pray, Love but many people did not like it. It's an emotional thing. Either you can connect with it or you can't. Sort of like "Bridges of Madison County". That was another film that had a profound effect on me emotionally. Others saw it in black and white.....A woman cheating on her husband !!!. Geez!!

Bridges Of Madison County was top notch film making, and it's one I like to revisit every now and then. And you are correct, it is so much more than just a movie about a woman cheating on her husband.

That last scene where she's in her truck with her husband and Clint is in his truck in front of her was extremely powerful. We all have to make quick decisions in life and that one was a biggie !!. I think we all wanted her to get out and run to Clint's truck at that moment but, you have to appreciate her decision and in the end and respect it for both her husband and her kids.

It's when Kincade sends her all his worldly belongings after death do we realize how profound and un-ending his love was for her.......Truly sad!. I saw that in the Theatre with my wife and we were both inconsolable !! Should have seriously brought a BOX of kleenex !!!
