    Lars and the Real Girl

This is another one of those movies that I just came across by random. And I don't know what to write about this movie. Don't even know what genre to put it in! Perhaps a "dramedy?" (drama comedy?)

I can't really tell you what it's about, as that would spoil it, but the lead character, Lars, (Ryan Gosling) is a troubled young adult that lives in his brother's garage. He has social problems, and difficulties interacting with family, friends and coworkes. He makes a big decision that ends up affecting his relationship with everyone in his small community. The thing is quite absurd, and I was pretty sure that the story was about to go completely down the tubes. However, if you do watch this movie, give it a chance. Somehow, it became endearing, and made me really care about the story characters.

Overall, I'd say this movie is very well done. Without a doubt, it is fresh and unique, and it was a breath of fresh air to see something with new ideas, instead of rehashes of formulaic plots. I would recommend it to anyone. Give it a chance, and I'd love to hear what others think about this as well.

My rating: :4: out of :5:

Don't recall seeing it at my local Blockbuster. I'll keep an eye out for it, though.

Wasn't this nominated for an Oscar? Best screenplay or the like?

I'd seen the description and passed on it, but if you liked it Chris then I'll have to check it out.

As usual, & befitting my seemingly off-beat taste in cinema, I bring you a personal recommendation likely few will see & even fewer will come to share my enthusiasm of.

        The Birthday Girl

Stars Ben Chaplin as John, Nicole Kidman as Nadia, and is directed by Jez Butterworth.

Rated: R for sexuality and language. There's some minor violence, too.

Premise: Sometimes, especially with people, what you get isn't what you were expecting.
