SOMETHING'S GOTTA GIVE probably not for the younger audience

In Something's Gotta Give, Jack Nicholson is playing his own age again, and that is a good thing. But the the difficulties of aging theme might not be for the younger folks, who also didn't like Something About Schmidt.

In Something's Gotta Give, Jack is a 63 year old bachelor still trying to live like a 23 year old. He meets a divorced Diane Keaton when dating Keaton's young daughter. Jack has a heart attack and this throws he and Keaton together. He has to stay at her summer place to recuperate. Diane has been living a lonely life as a playwright. She feels she is "closed for business" as far as romance and sex goes, but there is a strong attraction to Jack's character and things develop. The problem is, Jack can't commit. His heart attack has made him weepy and questioning his lifestyle, but he really fights the changes he is feeling and this drives he and Diane apart. In the meantime, the doctor who treated Jack ( Keannu Reeves) likes older women and pursues Diane. Well I won't say how all this is resolved, because this is a really fine film with excellent acting by Jack and Diane, who really have terrific charisma. They are just so right for this film. Though there is some drama, all in all this is a very funny film that will leave you feeling good about life.

I'm a huge Jack Nickolson fan, so I bought this cold. Watched it with my whole family and, although my wife cringed at a couple of scenes while my 11 year old watched, all enjoyed it quite a bit. You're right about the two leads having great chemistry. My favorite two scenes, without giving anything away, are the ones at the refrigerator and the hospital gown scene.

Got a thing for Jack's legs, Keith?

Saw this on the plane. Liked it quite a bit. Also saw Cheaper by the Dozen, Paycheck, and Chasing Liberty. Nothing like an 11 hour flight to catchup on your movies.

          Hi,

Tonight I saw “Something's Gotta Give” with Jack the MAN. What a nice funny movie. This one is the defiantly a keeper when it comes on DVD. Lots of laughs and not a bad story. Not as good as “As Good As it Gets” (sorry, too many as’s ), but still very good.

          Jack Bruce RIP
          by bigburner
My favourite bass player Jack Bruce died yesterday aged 71. A very sad day. Jack was best known for his work with Cream in the 1960s.

Last night I watched his 1998 DVD 'The Cream of Cream' as a tribute. It's half documentary, half...

Jack The Ripper, that is... in FROM HELL. Stars Johnny Depp as the Inspector who solves the identity of Jack The Ripper, and Heather Thomas who plays an intended Ripper victim. This is another take on the identity of The Ripper, and based on some known actuall facts, it is certainly plausible that there...

I picked up this gem because of a glowing review in...I think it was spin magazine, it's "Jack Bruce; Cities of the Heart" on CMP records.
Having grown up listening to Cream, West-Bruce and Lang, and other works of his that don't come to mind right now, I thought I knew what to expect....
