    Transformers 2:RoTF

Watched the "Big Screen" edition (IMAX scenes open up to full 16x9) last night.

Won't get into the movie itself, as, while I like it, I certainly wouldn't argue with anyone about the very numerous reasons not to.

But the disk presentation is great. PQ was very good, to stunning in the IMAX scenes. AQ also good, although this version has a 4dB reduction in levels compared to the standard version for some reason.

So it's like Dark Knight? Does it give you the option or is it fixed on the disc?

I rented the non " big screen " edition. I was going to do a little review on it but Brandon beat me to it. It really doesn't matter, though, because the review would have been rather vaugue. In fact, it would have went like this:

Watched Transformers ROTF last night. Don't have a clue what the story was about, and couldn't tell the bad Transformers from the good, but the images on Blu-ray just popped on my 7 foot wide screen, and the audio was just OMG !

I'm gonna say something about Megan Fox so I may get flamed. But, thing is, this young lady oozes sex without trying, so why all those suggestive and sultry poses ? I recall her when she was on a tv program called Hope and Faith where she played the teenage daughter of one of the sisters. She was sexy without trying then and can be so today, but it seems those around her( and certianly Micheal Bay ) are exploiting her natural sexuality and it is not only unneccessary, but bordering on the ridiculous. She's too young to know better, but someday she may regret what's happening to her now and may never really know if she could truly be a decent actress. They did the same to Marilyn Monroe and it was a long hard road for her to show that she really was a talented actress.

Chris, if you've seen the first, don't waste your time or money. How a movie like this gets green-lighted is beyond me. Three months from now this film will be relegated to the enormous mountain of hollywood drival.

Does the movie sound good? Heck yah, it does. Look good? You betcha. But to ask someone to sit though two and half hours of dreck is too much. After a hour and a half in I was getting antsy with the realization that I had almost forty five minutes left of this garbage. What kills me the most is that after two and a half hours I had nothing to show for it. I felt like I was mind raped. I'm sorry but this film should have been an hour and fifty minutes, tops. It's not like we're watching Lawrence of Arabia or All the President's Men here!

Why do film makers feel the need to make such long films? Is it an ego trip? Some stories and material require it and I'm OK with it. But a sci-fi film about robots (with a crappy story to boot)...c'mon! I'm glad I didn't spend my hard earned money seeing this in the theatre. I rented it on bluray for $2.00 and still feel like I got screwed.

I'll get off my soap box now...

Transformers. Y'either get it or you don't. This is not meant as a critisism one way or the other, btw. I do and really enjoyed those two hours. It worked for me - great action and some funny tho' clichéd dialogue. You also can;t avoid the Megan Fox addition and well it brought the 12 year old out in me.

She was on Hope and Faith? Gonna have to check the reruns.

Yeah I bought it. Now to find a few spare hours.

Huh... I was considering it as a blind purchase, but figured I'd Netflix it. I'll try it that way.

See that's the thing. I agree with virtually every specific criticism I have seen of this movie, and yet I still liked it almost as much as the first.

The aspect switching is very unobtrusive (even on a 120" screen). I had to point it out to the wife and kid.

Don't assume you'll hate this movie just because many people did. I would guess many more did not, considering it just destroyed a lot of DVD and Blu-ray sales records.

I believe she was on the last two seasons. She didn't look much different then than she does now. To be honest, and don't tell my wife, but she was the only reason I ever watched Hope and Faith.

Oh, and BTW, I didn't necessarily dislike Transformers 2, I just couldn't figure out what it was all about. My sons, who are in their late forties now, relate to Transformers much more than I.

I'll give this a rental (out of morbid curiosity, if nothing else). I have the first one, but only because I snagged it on HD DVD for 2.99$ on a blowout sale. It has some interesting technical extras and the girl looks good in hi-def.

Just watched it from Netflix. Not bad! Could have been better... I don't know if I have one specific criticism, just a bunch of little stuff as the movie went on. Not great, but not bad.

On BD with my nice theater, the audio and video ROCKED. LOTS of bass, not just loud, boomy bass, but real quality low frequency sweeps that were tight. Very nicely done.

I'll probably end up buying it way down the road, when it becomes really cheap. Maybe I'll wait for a big Transformers multi-pack, since I still only have the original on HD-DVD.

I'll likely do the same. It was pretty jawdropping watching it on my 7 foot wide screen. And the audio was pretty darn good. I agree about the bass, too. Tight and sweeping and not boomy.
