    Memoirs of a Geisha

The director of Chicago brings us the tale of a young girl who is sold to a geisha house and her rise to become the #1 Geisha in Japan. The movie is visually jaw dropping and the music is something else but the movie lacks substance. It'll move at a snails pace for most folks and to be honest leaves you with a feeling of "what next?".

Recommended for a rental only. :2: out of :5:

One note: the actresses in the movie are chinese so some folks might care about this since this is a Japanese movie but it didn't bother me.

My wife really enjoyed this movie. I thought it was good and I was never bored with it. The main actress Zhang Ziyi got a lot of flak for this movie being Chinese. I though she did a great job and is very talented. As well as amazing martial artist. It was very well done.

I'll probably rent it for my wife and pass on it myself.

I was impressed with visual and music...the movie itself was also quite good...

I agree :T Jazz and I finally watched it lastnight. Great story, great acting, beautifully shot and transferred, great sounding... Not really anything bad to say about it. I suppose some might find the pace a bit slow but it's not supposed to be an action movie  I normally quite enjoy period pieces/stories that unravel slowly etc and this was a great example :T

Jazz was also quite impressed at how well they folowed the book too.

The one thing that these two movies have in common is that they were both horribly overdue on DVD.

Memoirs of an Invisible Man is sort of understandable, being a sleeper film that was poorly marketed when it came out. It was sold as a slapstick comedy like other earlier Chevy Chase movies,...

                Chinese... anyone?
                by BTB
I'm sure that all but the most uninformed audiophile has noticed that China (or rather Chinese manufacture) has become a major component of the mid to high end audio marketplace these days. My Rotel amplifiers were made in China, so was the Marantz integrated I owned before it, and I'm sure that many...

OK...so we'd all but made the decision to purchase a RSX-1056 and Denon DVD-2200 for my brother, and then he saw the box that my RSP-1066 and RMB-1075 came in and read "Made in China". 8O

I've tried to tell him that it's not a Chinese sweat shop, that it is in fact a Rotel...

chinese tube amp varnish smell is worrisome
                by Coconutout
my mingda tube amp smelled of fresh paint when it first arrived. and from its transformers the smell of paint thinner was nauseating to the point where i had to stick the unit in a separate room with the tragedy of running extra long speaker cables from it. from asking around i've learned that this...
