Movies that you would like to see Special Editions of

Schindler's List is already high quality with a DTS soundtrack.

These are my two favorite films, and only productions I could honestly give :5: to.

A "real" Special Edition? The Abyss - the "so called" SE isn't even anamorphic.

Okay, by "special edition" I take that to mean a video remaster - anamorphic of course - from an HD source, DTS soundtrack and gobs of extras on a second disc. With that in mind, some more that I'd like, just out of my collection:

The 'directors cut' DVD is pretty bad quality, but the movie is great :T

Glen, the Blade Runner SE is a definite maybe. It's one of those "tied up by legal issues" things. . . you know, egos and the like. :M

David, nothing's really lacking on the Rattle and Hum DVD, other than the grainy picture from the black and white film. But any improvement, picture or especially audio, on my favorite DVD would be awesome.

I'm not trying to be a wise guy but what is the difference between a Special Edition and Regular Edition?

Pat, a special edition generally has more "extras" like interviews, trailers, deleted scenes, and on and on, than a plain-jane DVD and sometimes has improved picture- and sound-quality. There are all kinds of different labels for "improved" DVDs: special edition, collector's edition, un-rated edition, and on and on. . . . Un-rated means that there are scenes put back in that were initially cut due to questionable content like graphic sex (woohoo!), graphic violence and the like. Extended editions or director's cut mean that scenes of some type have been put back in - and not necessarily graphic ones.

Now, take this with a grain of salt as these things can vary on every DVD released.

Oh, I didn't even get into re-mastered releases. Those are ones where the picture and sound have supposedly been improved by re-processing by an engineer.

3. The Matrix I

The remastered Matrix disc is a vast improvement over the original release.

The good news is, this is on the list to be an HD-DVD!

I DVR'd it from INHD here recently. IT is not a vast improvment over the DVD. I can't imagine the HD DVD release will be significantly better than the DVD that is out now unless they went back and remastered it completely. LIkely I expect it to be the same as what I saw on INHD just recently. It was in HD 1080I with 5.1 sound. It shows its age.

Scent of a Woman: current disc is lacking
Batman: Coming soon though I read.
Strange Days: I hope they remaster this. I saw the HD presentation recently and was not impressed.
