    Super news!

    'X-Men' director signs for 'Superman'
    By ANTHONY BREZNICAN
    Associated Press
LOS ANGELES -- After a couple of false starts, "Superman" is ready to leap to the big screen again with a new director: "The Usual Suspects" filmmaker Bryan Singer.

The role of "Superman" himself, however, has not yet been determined.

Singer, 38, has already proven adept at comic-book adaptation with "X-Men" and "X2: X-Men United." He said the original Christopher Reeve movie is a favorite.

"My interest in 'Superman' dates back many, many years," Singer said in a statement late Sunday. "In fact, it was the (1978) Richard Donner classic film that was my day-to-day inspiration in shaping the 'X-Men' universe for the screen. I feel that 'Superman' has been late in his return and it is time for him to fly again."

Recently, "Charlie's Angels" director McG dropped out of the current "Superman" project, making way for Singer to take over. Tim Burton, who re-imagined "Batman" in the late 1980s, took a run at a re-imagined "Superman" around 1996 with star Nicolas Cage, but the movie fell apart in pre-production.

Singer's "X-Men" movies, from the Marvel Comics universe ('Superman' is from rival DC Comics), helped ignite the current trend of superheroes who battle super-ordinary life problems while grappling with eccentric bad-guys.

"We have always been committed to bringing 'Superman' back to the screen, and we're very happy to have Bryan on board this project," said Jeff Robinov, production chief for Warner Bros. Pictures.

Jon Peters, whose credits include 1989's "Batman" and the 1988 TV retrospective "Superman: 50th Anniversary," will produce the new 'Superman' movie.

The Man of Steel hasn't been the star of a feature film since 1987's "Superman IV: The Quest for Peace," despite aggressive efforts by Warner Bros. to resurrect the series.

"Superman" does live, however, on the small screen. The WB network's "Smallville" has become a hit by chronicling the teenage years of Clark Kent as he grows into his powers

The only negative parts of this are that Singer decided NOT to do X3 and also Logans Run which he was scheduled to do. Singer could have done Logans Run properly.

Thank God it's Singer and not McG. I'm sorry but a guy named McG should just not be directing first of all and especially not something like Superman which deserves a real director. I cringe to think what may have been 8O Anything like Charlies Angels would have just been embarrassing.

Agreed Jason...I could just imagine how brutal Superman would have been if it were done in the CA style :E

Its too bad Burton's idea didn't get made as I think he'd have done an interesting take on the story but Singer's a great choice given what he's done with X-Men.

Soooooooooo.... would the next movie then be Superman V? Or would they try to start over, like the Christopher Reeve films were never made?

I'm also glad to hear that Superman won't have any Charlie's Angel's feel to it. That would just really bum me out. But I'm suprised to hear that Singer won't be doing X3 or Logan's Run. I thought he had signed on for both of those! (and I didn't even know that Logan's Run was going to be redone until just recently)

The real test of the movie success will be in the chosen actor for Superman, of course. Hmmm... Arnold's too old now, and a governator, too, not Keanu, please, Lord, not Nick Cage... I dunno. The Rock?
          CHRIS

Well, we're safe for now. Thank goodness we're in a bowling alley.

I'd love to see the guy that's doing smallville get the role as that would only make sense but I doubt that'll happen with smallville still going strong

That's a good suggestion Andrew. Tom Welling is very well cast as young Clark Kent/Superman in Smallville.

A bit off topic: Jen had saved all of this season's episodes for me on our TIVO while I was in Washington so I was all set to play catch-up when I got back to Houston. Wrong. My son or daughter (no one's confessed : ) deleted them before I could view them. Wahhhhhh.

Just finished watching it for the first time. I really liked it in the beginning. I can't say I was overall pleased.

First, technical ratings. Sound quality was great. Really shows off how fast your subs can respond (lots of sonic boom type sounds). The bullet scene was awesome!...

                by Daniel Brecher
Hey all, I posted this on the TAG Mclaren forum on their website, but felt I should post it here too as I am unsure if this is a problem with the disc, or possibly the V3.2 software upgrade on the AV32R.

I got Superman DVD today, all plays fine except for the trailers and TV spot on the...

I saw Superman this morning. There were still a small handfull of unfinished digital effects shots but, I saw the majority of the film.
Looks like great film for those of you that like the DC comic movies. Much better than the Chris Reeves movie. Kevin Spacey makes a very good Lex Luther and...
