Looks like it. Guillermo Del Toro (Devil's Backbone, Mimic, BladeII, HellBoy)

Here's some extra info on At the Mountains of Madness:

How did they manage that? Did the director whisper sweet nothings (coo) in his ear? :>) Ron Perlman has appeared in prominent, but not lead, roles in other movies (Blade II, Chronos) directed by Guillermo del Toro.

And apparently I've possibly used a word out of context.

What I meant to say was that Perlman was finally getting his due at a prominent lead role that would accomodate his physical presence and acting ability.

Heck he was good even in the Beauty and the Beast tv show (remember that back in the late 80's....according to imdb 1987 ).

Did the director whisper sweet nothings (coo) in his ear?
What ever it takes to get an actor these days, I suppose

For me, I think this may be one of those wait and see movies. I really liked Guillermo Del Toro's non hollywood work(cronos, devils backbone), but found his bigger budget stuff a little weak.

Its also nice to see finally Ron Perlman finally get the lead in a mainstreem movie. He is a fantastic charactor actor and im interested to see how well he pulls this off. I really liked him in The City of Lost Children.

I just saw this trailer on HDNet. Looks interesting! Does this come from a comic book series or something? I got the feeling that the characters and story haven't been created from scratch, for some reason.

FWIW, Best Buy was having a thing the last few weeks where they were giving out free DVD's with a Hellboy preview. Doesn't look too shabby.

This looks good. It's amazing how many movies that are coming out based on comic books. Being a fan of comic books, I'm loving it.

I tried. I really did. I wanted to like this movie, but it just didn't work for me. I haven't had much time to put into movie reviews of late, so this'll be a shorty:

Wait for the DVD and rent it.

Technically, it was well filmed with very high quality FX. A full color palette was used although it was muted in underground/underwater/night scenes of course. The premise wasn't bad either, even though I haven't followed the Hellboy comics. Sonically, it has the standard 21st century action movie soundtrack. Lots of directional cues and almost constant use. Yep, it'll sound good in our theater rooms folks.

This movie fell apart due to a convoluted, inconsistent script and actors that really didn't seem too enthused about being in the film. I just couldn't get excited about it, even with it being Ron Pearlman in the lead role - an actor I like and enjoy.

I'll be generous and give Hellboy :2: out of :5:.

Ooooh, David, only two stars? Well, I'm likely to trust your judgement on this one, though I did like the Preview DVD that Best Buy was handing out. But I've been so busy I haven't really had time to consider getting out to see it anyway.

                              Thanks for the heads up.

I'll wave from the airport when I'm landing in Houston next week! :B Good ole HPQ again!
