    Halloween and spooky movies

With Halloween fast approaching I thought it would be fun to create a list of those special horror/thriller type movies that run in the vein (pun intended) of Halloween.

Here are some of my favs:

    American Werewolf in London
    The Howling
    Dracula (Coppola's)
Abbott and Costello meet: The Mummy/Dr.Jeckle and Mr. Hyde/The Invisible Man/ Frankenstein
Dracula (1958 -Christopher Lee) and 1931 (the original Bela Lugosi)
    Frankenstein (1931 -Boris Karloff)
    The Fly (Cronenberg remake)
    The Thing -John Carpenter
    The Mummy -1999
    Near Dark
    Vampires -John Carpenter
    From Dusk Till Dawn
    PumpkinHead
    Halloween
    Friday the 13th
    Nightmare on Elm Street 1,2,3
    976-evil
    FrightNight
    Creepshow
    Evil Dead
    Evil Dead 2
    House
    The Exorcist
    Poltergist
    Interview with a Vampire
    Jeepers Creepers
    Ghostbusters
    The Frighteners

    Additions
    ======
    THE HAUNTING ( original)

    ALIEN
    THE THING ( original)
THE WOLFMAN ( the first ever )
    The Cube
    Blade/Blade II (DTS is amazing)
    Sleepy Hollow
    Thinner
Brainscan (old cult favorite, just recently released on DVD)
    The Lost Boys
    Prince Of Darkness
Buffy The Vampire Slayer  (Mind you the tv series is on DVD and those are quite good.
    Videodrome

Feel free to add you favs....

    Muahhhhahhahhahhahh

Nice picks George...I almost forgot the Wolfman (whoops) I assume you mean the one with Lon Chaney Jr.

I will also add The Lost Boys...a cult classic in it's own right.

        Gentlemen,

Here are some of my favorites that were not included, although some are not exactly of the Halloween genre:

        1) The Cube
        2) Blade/Blade II (DTS is amazing)
        3) Sleepy Hollow
        4) Thinner
        5) Brainscan (old cult favorite, just recently released on DVD)

        Regards,

        Azeke

One of my all-time favorite scary movies is John Carpenter's Prince Of Darkness. For some reason, it just really spooks me each time I see it.

Oh, and let's not forget that all-time classic - Buffy The Vampire Slayer. :B

            Hey Azeke,

            Thanks for the contributions....

Brainscan....hmmm...nope I haven't seen that one....I'm confusing it with Videodrome I think. I'd throw Videodrome on the list but it's more sci-fi with the Cronenberg gore thrown in (then again I have The Fly remake in the list so I'll leave it up to you guys to make up your own mind on that one.)

            Is Brainscan any good?

Sleepy Hollow is a great suggestion :T...I'll add the Disney version is creepy in it's own right. That had me watching from under the covers as a kid. Their Headless Horseman was spoooooky

                Gordon,

Brainscan is an acquired taste, but I enjoy it for it's brain dumping capabilities (The Trickster is the true character), plus it really amuses me. Hard to find on DVD though.

Videodrome, wow I forgot about that one. I wonder if that's on DVD.

Edit: BTW, it is available on DVD Widescreen.

                Regards,

                Azeke

Videodrome, yeah that is one weird flick. I have it on dvd. Deborah Harry ( of Blondie fame) is really sexy in this movie.

As for Sleepy Hollow, I agree with Mr. Pratt. This is one of my Burton faves as well.
Another one that belongs on this list is the original KING KONG. When I saw this as a kid, it scared the livin' daylights outta me. 8O

                    Andrew,

Your daughter was born during the credits of Sleepy Hollow?

                    Wow, that's deep.

I'd have to add "The Crow", it's not really a "scary" movie but it is set right around Halloween.
