And Deniro's in both Fockers and Hide and Seek. Verrrrrryyyy interesting.

Diary Of A Mad Black Woman finally pushed Hitch out of first place at the box-office. It'll be interesting to see what happens with Million Dollar Baby next weekend, as it "punched out" everything else at the Oscars last night..

The Pacifier beat out Be Cool, the sequel to Get Shorty. And Hitch just keeps on - it's closing on $130 million US. Million Dollar Baby jumped up a spot based in part on its Oscar-night results..

Amityville came in at #1, Sin City dropped to 4th losing over 50% in ticket sales, Sahara dropped to #2 but stayed fairly strong ticket-wise and Fever Pitch held steady at #3. We're still waiting on that first blockbuster of 2005. Could it be The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy on April 29th?.

No Surprises Here
We all knew it was going to happen.
EP3, Revenge Of The Sith started out faster than any movie in history (not adjusted for inflation). US$108 million in North America and over US$300 million world-wide. Wow! 8O :T.

SWIII will die down fairly quickly. I predict a total US take of $400 million which means I think it will make another 120 million then die off. This really is the last week before the big guns start coming out.- Bottom

I just wish SWIII would kick Titanic off the top... The movie was okay, but I don't think it should've made that much...

Revenge Of The Sith was beaten out by Mr. & Mrs. Smith AND Madagascar. Wow. Who'd have thought that on it's third weekend? I can see M&MS being strong competition - action, sexy stars, etc. - but Madagascar?????? 8O.

I'm surprised about Madagascar doing that well too...especially since the reviews have been pretty mixed. I guess that since SW is darker this time, people needed something else to take the kids to?"We have so much time and so little to do. Strike that, reverse it." - Roald Dahl, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory- Bottom

I guess so, Sarah.
As far as reviews go, my wife and her sister went to see Madagascar and they both thought it was terrible.
Me? I was busy checking out Revenge Of The Sith at the IMAX. :T.

With school just out, I would expect Madagascar to do well. Geez, even Shark's Tale made money. Sith brought in more money per screen though, it was showing on about 600 fewer screens.
I hear good things about Mr.& Mrs. Smith, though. Not surprised it is doing really well.

Batman Begins is still on top but that will end this weekend as War Of The Worlds opens. Here's hoping it lives up to the hype. . . .

Charlie And The Chocolate Factory came out on top - no real surprise there, I guess. What did surprise me is that Wedding Crashers came in at number 2 with US$32+ million. Even though it came in at number 1 last week, with all the horrible reviews I'll bet that Fantastic 4 drops off the list in a big hurry..

Myself, I don't seem to be the target movie goer audience anymore. Only been to one movie this year, so far, Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Serious Ennui when it comes to most of the offerings. Maybe that's symptomatic of what's happened to the business. That, and folks just taking it for granted a little? There's so much out there, so much churn, and so much you can watch at home, there's just not as much motivation to get out to do it.

Although there are several movies currently showing in commercial theaters that I want to see, I will wait for the DVDs.
The past few times at commercial theaters really "did it". I've really had it with rude patrons (cell phones in use, constant chatter, getting up often to go to the concession stand and loudly asking what their companions want from there, etcetra) and poor projection (out of focus, house lights on for several minutes during the main feature, etcetera) and incredible prices for almost inedible snacks, among other reasons to enjoy movies in one's own HT.
I read today that some studios are considering releasing movies on DVD and HD pay-per-view at the same time they are released in the cineplexs, and that will be fine with me. http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/WNT/story?id=959904

Dukes Of Hazzard is the flavor of the week, but what about Wedding Crashers????? Still at #2 and it now has a total draw of US$144.1 million dollars. Pretty impressive for a low-budget film. War Of The Worlds has quietly amassed US$224.6 million, so I suppose it's paid for itself - at least..

Regarding the Dukes
So, what you are saying is, Jessica Simpson's a$$ hanging out of a pair of cut off shorts is worth about 10 million in a weekend, right? The amount above last week's number 1 film at the box brought subtracted from the 30 million the Dukes brought in the first weekend.
I guess Knoxville's parents will be upgraded from Cadillacs to Bentleys soon. (They live next door to where I grew up) He already bought them at least 1 Cadillac and a Condo in Daytona Beach.Doug

Flightplan came out on top, which isn't much of a surprise. But, Tim Burton's Corpse Bride jumped from 23rd to 2nd in it's first weekend of wide release. It also scored an 83% "Fresh" rating at Rotten Tomatoes!.

If you were a fan of the Firefly TV series then you owe it to yourself to go see Serenity. It's a fast, fun, intelligent sci-fi film with touches of Star Wars and Raiders Of The Lost Ark thrown in. Joss Whedon has done it again..
