A great movie? No. Reviews have assailed it as "not believable" among other criticisms, but "Taken" was even less so and it was a success. Pierce Brosnan is more believable as a hard ass as he gets older. I have generally ignored him because I saw him in the TV series "Remington Steele" and had discounted his ability to portray another character. There is enough action in The November Man to keep me interested, and the "slow" parts were really not slow. Happy ending, killer with a conscience, etc.. The formula doesn't do the performance justice. Think Clint Eastwood in "Unforgiven". He's still a cold, vicious taker of human life, without hesitation or remorse. Because he has personal affection for some people doesn't change who or what he is. Brosnan made that believable and that's what made the movie worthwhile to me. His not killing his nemesis was not out of character. He hurt him in a way that made living far more painful. I recommend it to the fans of the Bourne flicks. Which is funny, because I hated the Jason Bourne movies. Read Robert Ludlum's Jason Bourne novels instead. You'll be amazed at the depth of the character. Three stars for The November Man, maybe three and a half. Four if you can develop a sympathy for the character, but he IS a psychopath, so if you give it four you may have to take away a star for yourself.
