I'v read a couple of early reviewers comments on the new Bond movie and Craig seems to be getting a good reception. Now I'm looking forward to the dvd.

I'm seeing it first showing tomorrow, George. Actually hate going to the theaters (last time was for Thank You for Smoking), but this is an exception.
For the first time in years, I'm really, really looking forward to 007.
I want a harder edged Bond than we've seen since the original Sean Connery flicks. I enjoyed the others, but, truth be told, they were more like Bond cartoons than the real thing. Maybe it's because I was oriented on Connery's predatory nature, but, for me, enough with the suave, double entendre laden, overly gadgeted :M Bonds of late. I want a more brutal 007.
By the way, at least one site compared this to my favorite (yes, I'm probably the only one who feels this way) Bond movie of all time, On Her Majesty's Secret Service. It wasn't my favorite because of the guy who played Bond, although Diana Rigg is my all-time fantasy, but because it followed the Ian Fleming novel so well, which was my favorite of all the books. Some, such as The Spy Who Loved Me, had absolutely nothing to do with the novel...and I mean nothing.
It seems to be a return to the better story line, more in-depth character driven Bond. It might even top the original Casino Royale. :B
To me, a great Bond flick is right up there with a great Western...and you know how much I like those. :WKeith- Bottom

I was in the 7th grade when one of my dad's poker buddies gave me the whole set, as he'd read them all. In those days, we'd only read things like Ivanhoe and Tom Sawyer in school. Let's just say the Bond books turned me on to a new way of appreciating literature.Keith- Bottom

You know, Keith, from what I am reading about Craig's Bond, it is starting to sound a lot like how Timothy Dalton portrayed him, a little dark and quite human rather tha comic bookish. And I liked the two bond films Dalton made.- Bottom

Briefly, I went with three other people to Casino Royale and, surprisingly, we all were pretty close in our assessment of the new Bond offering. Each loved Daniel Craig as Bond. A good actor, he was able to be smooth at one moment and absolutely and recklessly brutal the next, all with believability. He's quite good. IMO, the best since Connery.
The film itself had some of the absolute best action sequences of any Bond film, but the plot and film kind of meandered in the middle section and we all wished it could have been tightened to shorten the thing. But, I'll optimistically conclude that they did so to establish depth to the new Bond looking forward to other films with Craig.
All in all, Craig's first outing has me excited for the first time in years about Bond. His more rough edged portrayal has me impatient for the next in the series to come out. Hopefully, it will be leaner and meaner.Keith- Bottom

I had to laugh when I heard about the "shaken or stirred?" line. I'm looking forward to seeing this one. :yesnod:.

I'm really looking forward to Craig being the new Bond. When I saw they were putting him in the movie the first thing I said was "They are bringing Bond back to the Connery days". Craig was great in Layer Cake and I think will be fantastic as Bond. Rather excited to see the movie!-Joe- Bottom

I can't handle Brosnan as Bond. He did as well as he can be expected, but visually, he just is not Bond to me. I feel like if he walked up to me with a gun, I'd just smack him and take it from him. He's just too skinny and too Remington Steele.

Casino Royale was fantastic. Daniel Craig is definitely the best Bond since Connery, in my opinion. Craig is more true to the Bond of the original Ian Fleming novels. He's suave and stylish and very, very brutal. There's also a sense of humanity in him that I've never seen in a Bond movie. The end scene of the movie is absolutely cool and made the crowd stand up and cheer! I loved it!- Bottom

I've been watching one Bond movie each night for the last several nights. Last night was "Living Daylights"--oooooh, not too good. In several parts, I was thinking, "are you kidding me?"CHRIS

I went to see Casino Royale last night. Craig is IMO the best Bond since Connery. He really did a good job bringing a more serious 007 to the screen.
The film has some of the best action scenes ever in the Bond franchise. This was done without leaning on gadgets. A nice and welcomed touch. Don't get me wrong, having cool gadgets is part of Bond however, the last few films just over did them IMO.
Another thing that was interesting, there is almost no use of the heroic "James Bond hero theme" when he was saving the day. There were a few things omitted that we are custom to seeing. As the story went on, I never felt they were needed.
Last, as stated earlier in the thread, this movie did seem to run on a tad. I don't want to go too much into why to respect those that haven't seen it. But, I understand them trying to build the new take on the franchise.
As an avid Sean Connery fan, when I heard that Daniel Craig was going to be the next Bond, I was not impressed with the choice. I'm happy to say that I was mistaken to pre-judge."I have come here, to chew bubblegum and kickass. And I'm all out of bubblegum!!!"- Bottom

Casino Royale finally made it to the island and we saw it last night. I have to agree just about word-for-word with John's review. An excellent take on the Bond theme, and Daniel Craig just plain works as James Bond. The lack of gadgets is refreshing and the return to the hard, relentless Bond really makes me want to see more from Mr. Craig in the role. (A bit surprisingly) I have to give it a :4: out of :5:..

Craig is great and he is easily the best since Connery. If his next one is only equal to this one in terms of performance, I might even go so far as to say he is Connery's equal :E
In any event, it seems that "Bond is Back" :T- Bottom

And the Bond girl in OHMSS is pretty sssssssmokin'... They did a good job, too, of having Bond fall in love and get married, without it being a cheesy thing. Not too bad with getting her killed off, either, although by today's film "pacing" standards it could have been a bit better.CHRIS
