Veeeeeerrrrry interesting, in many different ways. Not animation, Michael Bay film, based off an old 80's toy.... hmmm. Wonder if it will be any good.
Maybe they'll make a live-action G.I.Joe film next? Or what about the live-action Lego movie!!!!!!CHRIS
Well, we're safe for now. Thank goodness we're in a bowling alley.

If they didn't stick the best parts into the trailer it could be a contender. I haven't followed the Transformers - thinking they were simply a toy. Is there any founding storyline that is being used or is this a make it up as it goes tale?.

Pretty much following the original cartoon, feuding robots crash land on earth and get rebuilt using earth parts. A few liberties on names and vehicles used. The one pictured above was originally a VW beetle, but VW wouldn't license it. So now it's an 09 Camaro.

Wow... that's a very early preview being that now they show the previews only like 4 months prior to the movie being released. Could be interesting.B&W 804S/Velodyne SPL-1000R/Anthem MRX720- Bottom

Voltron, Garbage Pail kids, GI Joe, Star Wars, etc... Too many good memories.
All my friends have garage sale horror stories. (i.e. My mom sold my entire mint condition...whatever for $1.) LOL, that is why I locked my room when I left.
The real sad thing is that I am going to sell my Corvette for a set of new speakers, kinda going backwards hey.

Wow, looks great! I was thinking this was going to be a lame idea, but the trailer looks awesome. Hopefully it's not a film that has a great trailer, but sucks as a movie.CHRIS

Ok my first impressions is not bad. Very hard to judge it with what was shown but here goes. The robots look way too complex and the one thats jumping at the 2 people in the desert looks like a mechanical dog without any coverings like C3PO without the gold plating. Hmm I think I will wait until they release the final trailer with more dialogue and hopefully Optimus speaking. Didn't grab me. What happened to the original story plot with the Autobots ship crashing like the cartoon? I dont like it when they change the original idea and story makes me nervous. Of course I'm sure it will have jaw dropping CGI and good action but I for one am over that personally. Dont forget the characters and of course the story guys . I'm with you Chris lets hope it doesn't suck.- Bottom

From someone who obviously has too much time on their hands:
The thing crashing down is a protoform version of a transformer, not sure which one yet, but is basically used for entry before choosing an alt mode. The chopper is Blackout, Scorponok is the one in the desert, Prime is obviously the truck, Bumblebee is the yellow camaro, Red Alert is the hummer driving past Optimus, Ironhide is the big black truck, Barricade is the police car, and Bonecrusher is the one running into the bus. I think the one coming out of the water is protoform Ironhide.- Bottom

Thanks will1066 for the heads up on the protoform thing. Interesting thing with the choice of characters especially like Bonecrusher as he is part of the constructicons that form Devastater from memory. I'm a little disappointed that theres no Soundwave as he was one of my favorite characters from the cartoon had the best voice imo. With Speilberg involved I'm sure the story will hold up and we will care about the people who will be in the middle of the war. I am excited that it's coming out.
I can just see the opening of the movie showing the Autobot ship being attacked by the decepticons and then crashing to earth. That would be cool to see.- Bottom

I was born a little too late to be really into the cartoon, but I still remember it some. The trailer looks great. I have pretty high hopes for this one, especially in the sound category. As in, I'm already excited for the dvd. Big robots lend some great opportunities for LFE.- Bottom

Ok I just got back from seeing this. The movie seems to have been released a week earlier here in Australia before the US which is strange. Anyway simply put this movie works but as with all movies it's not perfect so I will start with the positive. Amazing yes amazing special effects ;x( just incredible and the bar has been raised yet again. The transformers themselves are excellent and you definatly care about them. The human actors are also good and help carry the story. All I can say is BUY A DECENT SUBWOOFER as this movie going by the cinama is going to be a sub killer :B and I for one cannot wait for it's release in either HD formats. Just too many parts to mention that simply sounded and looked amazing. Optimus (love that voice) is almost perfect but for some reason they felt he needed lips just didn't work for me but it's a little thing. The other Autobots were great the transformations are brilliant and the fight scenes eye candy to the max.
Ok now to the negative IMO. Not enough time spent on the transformers themselves. You never really get to know them personally and thats a pity as they all have individual personalities and traits other than Optiums Prime who has the most screen time next to Bubblebee. More interaction between them would have been alot better. Unfortunatly this is clearly the case with the Decepticons as they dont talk to each other, so there's no us against the autobots they just meet up and fight. Inappropriate humor in all the wrong places which took me out of the movie and just came across as stupid. There's one character thats heads the Sector 7 task force and he is just a complete waste of space and overacted should have been on the chopping board. The biggest problem I had with this movie and it seems to be happening more and more in action films is this waving around of the camera and shaking it around like crazy. I was really trying to get into the battle scenes and focus on what was happening but the camera just moves far too quickly and there never seems to be a full shot of a transformer for too long just seemed very rushed. I can see what Michael Bay was trying to go for but it comes across as "if we dont have full effect shots we can save some money so just make it a blur". What you do get to see is truelly oscar winning effects and you just crave more. Next and final nit pick is that theres a slow middle section where nothing really happens and the action is all at the start and the end but what you get is Arrrrrr I want more 8O
I'm a big fan of this franchise (Gen 1) but dropped off it after the animated movie came out so I might be a little harder on this movie. All I can say is if they decide to do a sequel, the board is set the pieces are moving bring it on.- Bottom

Wow thats interesting because I read an interview after the premier on the net and the interviewer asked him about the lips and Micheal Bay said they tried the other way and it just didn't work so they went with the lips. On the plus side the mouth guard part (original mouth) is there but when Optimus speaks the guard part breaks away to reveal his mouth. It's not that bad but I would have preferred the original look.
Here is the link to the interview:
Quote: Question: I thought you gave him lips
Bay: Well because, you know, we did a lot of studies, facial studies. And it just - emotional is so hard without that kind of movement, you know. We tried it solid. It just didn't look right.- Bottom

Well if your a big fan (unfortunalty they dont like change) just take Starwars fans for instance, and consider the changing of a main characters face then it's a big deal. I didn't mind it myself but still preferred the original look as it made him look more like a robot from another planet rather than a person like us. I would like to see this movie again just to catch things that I may have missed the first time. Looking forward to others opinions.- Bottom

Rotten Tomatoes has it rated at 61% positive by critics, and 85% by viewers. 85%? I'll have to check it out on the big screen once it hits here on the island..
