    Underworld: Evolution Is Almost Here

Wheee! This is one of the few upcoming titles I'm excited about, so on Jan. 20th, I'm going to have to catch a ferry over to the mainland and hit the cinema.

Here's the official website for Underworld: Evolution

I'm going, if only to stare at Kate Beckinsale in that outfit for 2 hours.

      Amen, Kyle!

Kate Beckinsale in leather, with a penchant for weapons and fast cars? What else could we want? Ripley, who's Ripley? :B

Plus, there's the inherent sensualism built into the Vampire lore...

Yeah, this one should be good. The last movie set this one up pretty good, I think. Marcus should be a badass, and there's the possibility that he's become the ultimate breed of Vampire and Werewolf, just like the main male character in the last one.

Well, we're safe for now. Thank goodness we're in a bowling alley.

Hopefully it's better than the last "movie". It was a terd.

Well, I've seen the last one a couple times, and I have to say it started out strong and petered out towards the end.

In the original Blade, they did a good job really bringing out the intrigue, romance and violence of the vampire subculture, but in the original Underworld, it was sort of a subtext and I felt that it detracted from the mood of the film.

The whole idea of vampires vs werewolves is a great idea, but this whole super beast (and in blade, super vampire) business seems like such a cop out. In my mind, I sort of equate it to the last 5 minutes of the original matrix movie.. It was fantastic until neo went all superman.

Best reason I've heard/read so far. I'll have to admit to fast forwarding through large chunks of the first one.
                Ripley, who's Ripley?
Believe it or not, (to coin a phrase), there was a time when I'd watch any movie with her in it just to be able to stare at her for two hours. How else could I explain not being able to summarize the plots for "Alien 3" and "Alien 4" after having sat through them? (OK, I'll admit there was some fast forwarding involved there, too.) :>)

                        Well not too bad.

                        Not a bad movie.
The wife and I, being fans of the first film went out and saw this last night.
Takes place directly after the first movie.
i was glad to see it was produced a LOT like the first movie so the "style" remained very close to the original.
Nice to see Kate in her slick black costume again too.
                        heh.
It also does a good job in catching up the "un-initiated" in the audience, so no worries if you missed the first outting.
solves some questions left over from the first movie, and creates a couple more for the third. Good running time, also. By my watch it was just a tad under 2 hours.

Unfortunately, it is the typical second movie of the franchise.
So, no, its not going to be as good as the first. I only know of a few deviations that apply to this rule (a topic for another thread perhaps?). It does a good job as a stand alone movie, but really I expect that the third movie will be a lot better than this one was.

Yes, I'd see it on the big screen (IF you're a fan). I'll definitely be renting this, if not, buying it. Not sure how the casual viewer will like it. If you're not into the genre, there are much better movies out there to spend money on and get a better ride.

                        Cheers,
                        Mikey
P.S. receiving a rather cruel 19% on rottentomatoes as of this morning.
Probably should have been more like 27-35%. It DID have some cool points to it.

So if I thought Blade was absolute garbage should I try this or not? Looks okay from the trailer (although my mind can't remember anything except Kate Beckinsale!).

Sounds like you're definitely in the 'rental' catagory there, ford.
go buy a dvd, take a bud out for some billiards or have a steak instead
Kate was good, but i could've just as easily rented this one.

I finally saw this in the theater.

The plot has been nicely summarized, so I'll just ad my two bits. If you liked the first, you'll like the second. So I liked the second. I am also glad I saw it on the 'big' screen. More on that in another thread.

I will be adding this to my collection.

Oh, yikes, I just saw this, and I'd have to give it a C+ or so. Not too good. Parts were definitely overdone, produced in a style that was just for the geek "wow" factor, not for good action or story. Some stuff just didn't mesh, and the ending was just... uh.... overdone.

                                    Count me disappointed.
