I've been listening to Jeff Wayne's musical re-telling of WOTW this morning at work. It's a double CD set with Sir Richard Burton narrating the story, and many guest musicians performing in various songs.

David did you know that they are bring out a SACD version of that double cd in July? Theres a collectors 4 cd set as well including the SACD version and original. My brother is hanging for this one. Should sound awesome.

Oh yeah, baby!!! :T The original double-CD set was no slouch as far a quality goes but I can only imagine what this set will sound like.


This is great! I'm glad someone else is a fan. I thought I was the only person on earth that had bought this or even knew about it. Anyone I'd mention it to would just look at me with this "whatever" expression.

How are you with 50's-60's sci-fi? The acting, script, etc. are all pretty standard for that time. Where the original War Of The Worlds stands out is in the special effects and the fact it's a color film. Superb special effects for the time are what keep me coming back to this old favorite. I love the concept of the Martians' war machines a levitating rounded triangular platform with a slim articulated neck supporting the beam thrower.

It can't hurt to see it, if for nothing else than to contrast it against what should be a good summer blockbuster.

I wonder if Day of the Triffids will ever see the light of day? There were always rumblings but nothing has ever come of it. If War of the Worlds does well....highly likely....maybe someone would be brave enough to take that one on.

Yep my brother is a huge fan and when he first bought that set he would constantly play it at night when I was trying to sleep and being quite young it scared the crap out of me. 8O . With the remake out he has being playing it for the last 3 days and memories are flooding back for me I still get the jitters when I hear it ops:

That WOTW double album was the first record I can remember buying and I listened to the cd's recently and was suprised how well they have stood the test of time.

Wow, The Day of the Triffids, I remember watching that movie and I was simply awed, of course I was younger. I looked it up on Rottentomatoes, 91% rating.

One review I've read said its very good....right up until the end when it gets too mushy.
