I REALLY like the new approach over the old Tim Burton one. It's much closer to the Dark Knight premise.

Looks good! Yes, dark, yes, characters seem appropriate. I think we see the scarecrow!

The only thing I'm not sure about is the part showing his training. Seems a little far-reaching to go to the "trained by Oriental kung-fu masters" tribe. That's been done many times...
