Lucas Calls New 'Star Wars' a Titanic Tearjerker

According to this Yahoo! Article, leave the lightsabers at home and bring a box of tissues when you go to see Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.

    Personally, I can't wait!

Well, from the very first movie (Episode 4), we knew the "kids" had been raised through a tragedy. I'm trying to be careful with the wording - even though probably everyone in THIS galaxy knows what I'm referring to. : There were so many tidbits/clues thrown around the the first three movies about the past that we just knew that this episode had to be traumatic in many ways.

This may be the best episode since The Empire Strikes Back. At least, the trailer has my antennae twitching.

    . . . must not get hopes up. . . . must not get hopes up. . . .

/sigh I hope not. They tried this in Episode 2 and it sucked for that reason.

Shane, Shane Shane....don't be so negative (sucked is a really strong word, I've seen movies that have postively sucked and episode II didn't suck...it had rough spots, but it didn't all out suck, sourse I realize that's your opinion you're entitled to :W )

I think what Lucas might be getting at is that what will be depressing/sad/tragic is watching a person with a lot of potential to do good fail tragically (especially starting with a clean slate as an innocent boy...Jake Loyd bothers me less and less everytime I watch episode I). It may or may not work because this will soley depend on the acting. The dialogue will <probably> not be up to snuff because the romance angle wasn't mature enough in episodeII to convey a love story of Titanic proportions.

Not to worry, I hear there's one Helluva good lightsaber fight in there. Potentially the best that's ever been put on film (I mean Digital Tape ).

Looks like there'll be a decent space battle in there as well (as far as trailers go).

It has potential....and I echo David's last thoughts (as does the rest of the world methinks).
Sell crazy someplace else, we're all stocked up here.

Ok I was a let down because they tried to mix that in which is understandable. It seemed forced and poorly acted with poor dialog.

I'll be there for the 3rd. Hopefully it will be better than Ep 1 or 2.

Love him or hate him, but Lucas has been able to o what he wanted.

A lot of online people have posted their dislike for the changes to EP 4,5 & 6 and many have voiced their dislike for EP1 &2. Some disliked it much more than others but most people have a couple things in common. For one most of us have purchased ep 4,5 & 6 in multiple formats VHS and DVD for me and Laserdisk for many others.

We have also spent our money on EP1 &2 either at the theater or DVD or both in my case.

Many have gotten sucked in to the merchandising either because of children or our own childhood feelings for ep 4,5 &6.

Add to that the millions of PS2 games and you have one very rich person that has made a series of movies that keep us coming back for more.

As much as you might not like the movie / movies he has made or remade you have spent your money.

Personaly I never held Star Wars in such regard that I was offended by his tweeking of the original 3 and I have thouroughly enjoyed 1 &2. Most of all he has provided me with fond memories of my childhood and a series of movies that my children have grown up enjoying. We never have to wory about excessive violence, language, neudity or any extremes that society has come to expect and yet they are blockbusters.

I very much look forward to Ep3 and even got goose bumps watching this new longer trailer that was on at the end of OC.

Say what you want about the man and his movies, but you and I have spent a lot of money on this love hate relationship and we all gained from it.

I still think that Ep III has the potential to be the best movie ever made, the way 1,2,4,5,6 set it up. Unfortunately, I think Lucas has decreased his chances of having III be the "best ever" with some things he put in 1 and 2, so it will be difficult, but still possible.

              I hope, I hope. Can't wait.

The problem with Lucas is that he feels that digital technology is the answer to delivering a good movie. After watching The Empire of Dreams making of the starwars trilogy, one has to say "What the hell happened with Eps 1&2? How can you go from Eps 4,5 and 6 to those. The originals had substance and everything was done the hard way with real sets and models. Most of the shots in Eps1&2 are digital and they stand out and everything looks new. The characters were very forgetable and the dialogue was just terrrible. The beauty with the originals was that there wasn't a scene that didn't belong everything was necessary. The new ones just had next scene next scene new special effects shot, pure eye candy. I personally could'nt care less about the characters or the situations they were in, and the acting was very wooden. The main problem IMO was that Lucas should have stayed away from directing and let someone with more modern experience to direct, Spielberg would have been my first choice. I've seen the trailer and once again one big special effect. Let us hope the acting has improved and the magic that was once Starwars shines through. All of the above is of course IMO.

Star Wars I & II is enjoyable to watch.......I just wish all the movie makers would slow down and not be in such a hurry to bring out I II III IIII V etc.

                  Quality not quantity maybe?

I agree. And Kasdan writing again with Woo staging the action.

While I enjoyed Episodes I, II, IV, V, and VI, episode II is definetly the low point of the series for me. The three things that I worry most about for episode III are:

                        1. The transition from sleek episode I technology to 70s era episode IV lightbulbs and ship designs.

                        2. More corny explanations for things like "midicloreans". The force is the force! Leave it at that!

                        3. Hayden being given any more lines that involve romance. He brings hatred and action across quite well, but I got squeemish when I saw how terrible his attempted wooing of Portman was.

Then again, with a legacy like this, the film could come out as a 5min animated short in crayon and I'd buy it!

Believe me, I am happy Lucas was able to complete the series. Whatever the outcome of EP III, it will be a welcome addition to my collection.

Although the movie is complete and will be here in a few weeks, I do (like everyone else) have personal hopes:

I have no wish to "see" Jar Jar die, screen time is too precious. Short side dialog of his horrible demise is adequate.

Hayden and his WB style romance acting must be suppressed, hire a stunt double for him if these scenes are critical to plot.

There had better be a good reason for Yoda to flee to that planet, while all his Jedi brothren bought it.

Master Windu's final lightsaber fight had better be tight a la EP I. The Darth Maul, Obi-wan and master fight was sweet.

The Obi-wan/Ani fight must be the fight to end all fights!

Like Nicholas said, no crippling of Ep III's technology in order to blend in with Eps IV, V, and VI. Let it go, George! If it bothers you that much, just re-make IV, V, and VI! Just kidding, you can put the pitchforks down.
