    1068 question-cd- analog/digital inputs

    Hi all,

    Maybe a silly question.

My cd player is hooked up both by analog cables and an optical cable to my RSP 1068. When I go to the input menu for Listen:CD I set it to Optical 2. Ok, I then go and play a cd. When I'm in PCM 2 CH mode I cannot choose Bypass or stereo modes. The only way I can do this is if I go back to the menu and choose Analog in the input menu then this works and I cannot choose PCM 2 CH mode.

Is this the way it is or am I doing something wrong here?? Please enlighten me. Thanks. Much appreciated. ;x(

As far as I understand it, if you connect both, the 1068 will automatically choose the digital input if a data stream is there (hence the PCM 2 CH in display). If the stream is interrupted it will instantly switch over to the corresponding analogue input.

The analogue route is normally digitised, processed, and re-converted to analogue, the Bypass mode cuts out all this processing, routing the analogue input directly to the output.

So, Bypass is an analogue only function, and your unit is operating normally.

Yes you are correct, to by-pass, you need an analog input. So setting the CD to analog is what you want to do if you want a "pretty-much" pure signal from the CDP to your AMP.

If you leave it set on analog in the menu system, then for the CD input it will always look towards the analog input...as far as I'm aware.

Hi..Thanks for the responses to my query. Much appreciated. I believe I've figured it out with the forums assistance. I will remove my optical cable from the equation and set my default at PCM 2 Ch. When I go to cd it wont recognize PCM 2 Ch and will automatically switch to Analog mode. I am going to be buying some high quality analog interconnects(Blue jeans cable) this week.

Many thanks to all who replied to this thread.

Better to buy SilverCats. I used to have Bluejeans cables (best they sold) and I've switched out all of them for Silvercats. They are THAT much better. It's the silver over the copper that really makes the difference.

Heck, if you want to test just to make sure...buy a set of Silvercats and I'll send you a set of Bluejeans that I have laying around doing nothing. :T

SilverCats?? Never heard of them. I will check out their website. Are their prices competitive with Bluejeans? What differences did you notice Pewter?

Pewter...check your PM. It seems that CAT Cables have suspended operations according to the Cat Cables section here in htguide. Unfortunate.

                8CH Analogue Input Splitters?
                by marshahu_cr
From my previous post it seems that I have too high expectations to get a receiver with two 8CH analogue inputs for under £400!

Is there a device like an 8CH Analogue input splitter? - the idea being I hook this into the one 8CH input on the receiver and then hook up my two computers,...

                Easy folks,

just upgraded from RA-1062 to a HT setup with a RSX-1056. I haven't quite tweaked it to perfection yet. I'm running Monitor Audio GR10's and Rel Q201E sub. Haven't hooked up the rest of the speakers yet, but got some B&W's 601's for rears.

                Anyway, 2 channel...
