RSX-1056 preamp outs drive analog source for zone2

Insane thought here but what the heck. The RSX1056 has no DAC for zone 2.
Could I drive say video 3 of RSX-1056 with the preout FL,FR so then a
digital signal on video 2 would get DAC'd then send video3 to zone 2.

Am I totally crazy here? I really want my zone 2 to play some digital only inputs.

A couple of issues with that thought:

    1) You would have to leave it in stereo or 5ch stereo mode to get all of the signal
    2) Whatever volume your main zone is at is the maximum volume zone 2 could be at. IE, the FL/FR outputs are always controlled by the main volume.
    3) Related to #2, you would have to listen to the same thing in both zones. The only way video 3 would get the sound you wanted out of the FL/FR outputs is to select that source in the main room.

You would accomplish the same thing (and have the same issues) by just running the FL/FR outputs to the zone2 amp.

It would easier to just pick up an external DAC. You can get one cheap depending on how good you want the sound quality.

      Thanks for the quick reply.
      Great points.
But you've answered the ultimate question, how to squeeze the analog source out.
Solves my issue of wanting dig tv sound outside....just use the pre's (duh!)
Yea, it makes sense that the pre's only push currently selected source.
Would love to see the schematic for the 1056.
I do have an old unused RSP 980 in the same cabinent as my zone2 RB-985
and actually my zone 2 speaker cables terminate in same cab as the 1056.
Some interesting possibilities come to mind also with the 1056s speaker redirect feature.

      Thanks again.

        Zone 2 install
        by Andrew Pratt
I finally have my Zone 2 system installed and working great. If you remember back I was trying to get a Terk wireless IR repeater working with my Rotel 1098 pre pro but it wouldn't work so I sold that and purchased a hard wired system as detailed in this thread here. I also used to have a pair of Paradigm...

RSX-1560: Using CB Amps for Zone 2
        by njarwala
        Hello,

I have a Rotel RSX 1560. My setup is 5.1 and I do not have Center Back speakers. I want to configure the receiver so that I can use the two Center Back amps to power speakers in my backyard - as Zone 2. I can't seem to get it to work.

Here is what I have already...

        1098 and zone2 via IR
        by eddyg
        Hi,

I'm still having issues with my Zone 2. My setup has the 1098 and source equipment at the back of the front room, I use a xantech IR relay network to connect them all to an IR receiver at the front of the front room. The same IR network also connects to the other rooms in the house....

        Hello everyone,
I'm using the zone 2 feature on the 9.4 where i'm not using the fixed volume outs on the unit. Instead I activated and am using the Zone2 outputs which are the 6th and 7th speaker in a 7.1 configuration. Integra allows you to either use the outputs as speaker 6 and 7, or to...
