    RSP-1068 Hum again

    Hi,

I own a RSp-1068, it is an early model. Actually one of the first to arrive in EU.

It has a rather nasty hum problem, wich I narrowed down to using both component and the 5.1 connection to my DVD-2900. I has been discussed before on this forum.

Unfortunately it is hard to convince the repair service. Now I am told by them not to use Coax and 5.1 at the same time, since it creates a ground loop.

So I have a few questions:

it seems that some of us got new units from Rotel early 2004, to replace the faulty ones. Can anyone PM me about this.

Are there any Denon (2900) users here who use component, 5.1 and Coax on the rsp-1068, who experience simular problems ?

it is kind of frustrating, beiing a long loyal Rotel customer and having a 5 year warrenty. But still no result after 2 reapairs.

I have to say the quietness of my 1068 is one of the biggest things I like about it ... my 1066 was definitely more noisey.

I would say there is something wrong with your unit ... I use 5.1 and comp and have no problems at all ... (Arcam->1068) its a rediculous comment form them to say you cannot use 5.1 and component... what else are you supposed to do?

But this loop seems it could be derived from the player and not the 1068 ??? Have you tried another player?

Usually Rotel are pretty good with swap outs / repair and the agent should help you here as they will not incur any costs related to this. Befriend your local agent - promise more business down the line etc ... if he does not look after you then go directly to Rotel and complain.

      Keep pushing.

Luckily I have a good dealer and he has arranged me a demo rsp-1068, so I can try this new unit at home.

the problem is, it not only happens with my DVD-player, but also with my Xbox 360 and Samsung HDTV cable box. So it is defininately the RSP that is broken.

I have a loan Harman Kardon now from a friend. It has not hummed in weeks. So I am curious how the new 1068 will perform.

Do you have any hum with all inputs removed? Nope? Probably not the 1068 then, its probably a ground problem. The 1098 does not have a Gnd pin in the power connector, so there might be a potential difference with the phono plug sleaves. Have you tried rotating the power plug to swap the L and N leads (N is usually tied to Gnd in Europe)? Its sometimes a pain to find the culprit (hum source), good luck with your tests.

I have received a demo 1068 last friday. Up to now it has not hummed at all. Also it seems to be more silent and has less hiss on higher volumes.

I am very pleased so far.

              -- Update --

I exchanged my original 1068 for the one I had on loan from Rotel NL. It has worked perfectly for weeks now, so mine was definately broken.

thanks to Rotel NL for the service...

My brand new Rsp 1068 started humming. I have had this processor for about 3 weeks. I moved a couple of things around, and found that you can only hear the hum when the component monitor output is connected. I think that the problem is that these wires run side by side to the tv power cable inside...

Why do I need to upgrade my RSP-1068?
                by raduray
Until just a month ago, I had a SD Sony 36” Wega CRT as the video component of my system. Feeding it, using component from the 1068, was an S-Video cable box and a S-Video/Component 480p Pioneer DVD/CD player/recorder. Sound from the Cable Box and the DVD/CD Player was via the digital coax and...

                video signal degradation via 1068
                by mars
Re-arranged my system and am using my TV for video switching since 1068 has no HDMI... noticed the picture looked better so I switched back and forth a few times. The 1068 definately degrades component video HD-muted colors and more "grain".
I know the signal path is longer going via...
