    Multi channel Rotel

I have been running an RX-975 and an older RCC-940AX cd player for two channel and have a mass market Yamaha HTR. I would like to step up to more power and am looking at the Rotel multi-channel amps (5 channel is all I need). Do I also then need a preamp/processor to run my DVD audio through before it goes to the amp? I only need something to run audio (all video goes straight to HDTV). If so, any recommendations on something simple. I have spent a few hours roaming the net and have found little discussion on this since everything seems geared to HTR. Thanks. Neil

Unless your DVD player has a volume control built-in (very rare), then yes you will need some type of pre-amp between the player and the amp.

I haven't seen any 5.1 volume control only pre-amps, but I'm sure they exist. Since they would be geared toward purists, chances are an older pre/pro with 5.1 in's and out's might be cheaper.

      Right equipment

So, something like Rotel RSP-976 Home Theater Preamp/Processor can be run between DVD player and 5 channel amp, then? I gather I can run either the 5 channel outputs from the dvd player or the optical audio out to the processor? Thanks. I would also likely run HD cable audio through the system, but that is it (well until it change). Neil

Right, the 976 will work fine. Optical will be fine for Dolby Digital and DTS, but for DVDA or SACD you will need to run 6 RCA cables from the DVD player.

          New Halo CD Player?
          by Vince Helm
Now that the Parasound Halo has two hi-end audio products in the line, JC1 and JC2. As both are geared more toward the upper hi-end 2 channel approach to audio, should they bring to market a hi-end 2 channel cd player or transport / DAC combo to match the JC1 and JC2?

2 channel vs Multi Channel SACD
          by GSamF
I have a 2 channel SACD player (Sony DVP-S9000es) which I truly enjoy.

I have tried to do my homework on whether all Multi channel SACD's are recorded also with a two channel SACD mix (not redboook). From my searching I have seen a couple places infer that they do, but no place that...

Rotel 5 channel 'class d' amp?
          by Clepto
Anyone know what the wattage on this amp is going to be? Since I'm only runnign 5.1, assuming the 5 channel and 7 channel run the same price, it might be better for me to get the 5 channel version...

And if I ever upgrade to 7.1, it'll be an excuse to get a stereo amp addedd to the mix...

Thoughts on the Sony SCD-C555ES multi channel SACD player?
          by Chip
I just purchased this player from Oade Bros. for $775.00 (it lists for $1700.00). I mainly want to know if this would be a good player for redbook cd's(i imagine it would)...secondly, does anyone think the dac's in this player would best the dac's in my B&K 307? Any thought's would be appreciated....

So I've been playing with receivers in pursuit of a new one. I picked this up from Best Buy last week and played around a little more after a false start (a missing remote).
