Can I input my turntable to the tape input on the RSP-1098 or do I need a phono amp?

You need a phono preamp. Rotel has one, the RQ-970. It's quite good for the money ($200.00 US) and can be used with both MM and MC cartridges.

I have a 9.1 but using the phono input is imposable due to the hum.
I don’t think it is a ground loop as I have:
Disconnected everything but the phono input
Turned off all other power in the house except the power circuit for the Hi Fi
Used an MIT Z-Isolator for the power... -
Hi, I was trying to run my turntable / Phono through an older analog graphic equalizer from my RSP-1582 and it won't equlaize the sound. I have a Rotel RC-1070 and RB-1070 amp in my current Stereo Hi-Fi rig, along with a RDP-980 DAC. ( I've also previously owned an RQ970BX phono amp)....
