AV32R Hookup Question

Buzz, is there any way that the AV32R can remotely turn on my Citation 7.1 amp, which I can be turned on remotely by use of a 4.5 volt to 12 volt DC signal. I used to turn the amp on by means of a AC to DC converter plugged into the switched outlet of my reciver. It's not clear to me from the AV32R manuals whether the 9 pin connector can be used somehow, and I am not familiar with this type of connector. Does it send a DC signal? Does there have to be a 9 pin connector on the other end? These are probably stupid questions, but since you are also familiar with the Citation due to one of your previous lives, I thought you might have some ideas. Thanks.

Sure!
Think of the siwtches on the back of the AV32R as a light switch. When you open the switch, no current flows, so no amp turn on.
All you need to do is run one leg of the 12v adaptor you have through the switch, and then program the switch as closed ofr any input. When the processor is on, current will flow and the Citation will stay on.
The connector on the rear panel is a standard DB9 connector, just like those used for a serial port on a PC. Just get on of those connectors or cables and wire your 12v transformer through it.

Buzz, being an electronics dunce, I have another question. How would I go about wiring the DB9 connector to the AC/DC converter? The converter is basically a transformer (like a wall wart) with a two-pronged plug coming out of the back of it, and at the bottom of the unit a thin cable comes out that carries the DC voltage. It would seem that I would have to crack open the transformer to wire the DB9 to it, and I'm not sure if that's what you intended or how I would do that.

By the way, when I first opened the box on the AV32R, I kept looking for the instruction manual, and I thought for about two minutes that it was left out of the box. I finally found them in the CD jewel cases. What a great innovation! I wish all manufacturers would do the same with their manuals.

No, much easier, you just cut into the cable.
Basically, you only need to pass one of the wires through the connector. IF you are not comfortable with this, ask your dealer to do iot for you. They should be something more then clerks...

Sorry, Buzz, I'm dense. Are you saying the AV32R puts out a DC signal of the proper voltage for the Citation through the 9 pin connector so I just have to wire the DB9 cable to the cable that fits into the remote input on the Citation? If so, I got it. If not, I am totally lost.

You're half way there. You already have something that puts out the proper voltage (the small "wall wart" transformer you were using previously). All you want the Av32R to do is turn that on and off. It does so via a switch (actually there are three switches, but you only need one). By interupting the flow from the transformer to the Citation, the AV32R will make the Citation turn off.
There are two conductors in the wire from your transformer. If you cut one of them, attaching it to the switch, when the switch is closed, current will flow, the amp will turn on.
Since this is all a little new to you, get your dealer to make up a cable, It's not hard for him to do.
