JORDIE, THERE IS NOT REASON TO SHOUT
(caps are considered shouting on the internet).

Jordie please don't use caps lock as it makes it very difficult to read.

Now what exactly are you looking for in a DVD player? Is audio a priority or is top tier video more important...or both?

I'm sorry guys..I did not mean to shout...the only reasonI used caps is that I cannot see very well. Most of the times I even write my emails using caps...so I can see what I write...anyway...I'l try to be more careful
        in the future........
.....as far as the dvd...I'm interested in both sound and picture quality...
        thanks a lot!

Jordie, I don't know about Rotel's offerings, but the Denon 2900 is getting pretty good reviews close to your price range...

Replacing p.s. caps in older amps
            by whoaru99
Since I've read that usually it's capacitors that go bad in older amps, I've been contemplating replacing them in my mid-80's Yamahas as preventative maintenance.

As of now, there are no signs of impending failure that I can see. No leakage, no swelling, no discoloration, etc. So, this...

Why so much hype over caps?
            by Heavy-D
Let's start from the beginning. I noticed the highs from my speakers were not as crisp as they used to be, so I started asking questions and found out electrolytic caps were used and can degrade over time. It was suggested they be replaced with polypropylene caps. Started looking for replacement caps...

Use caps in series to get lower value?
            by JJones
Is there any reason not to use caps in series to get a lower value (other than cost)?

If you put 2 10uF caps in series, you end up w/5uF...

What I don't understand is, if you connect 2 10uF 100VAC in series, then, why wouldn't the VAC rating be 400? ( x2 caps and 1/2...

What are your favorite low volume (small) inductors and caps?
            by JonW
            Hi Folks,

After a long time away from speaker building (I had a kid), I’m getting back into it. The current project is a quite small speaker, with an internal volume of only 5 liters. I’ll start another thread on the design and goals after things are farther along.

            Due...

            Stereophile's JA discusses Caps!
            by ---k---
I got a good chuckle while reading the August issue of Stereophile (I only read it for the measurements! ). On page 76 and 77 of John Atkinson's (whom I respect) review of the Esoteric MG-20 speakers(which I recently spent 30 minutes listen to at a local dealer), he states:

            There...
